SL Pro Conference

The SL Pro conference starts in a few weeks, and most of us have heard about the $99US cost for a 3 day in-world event and wondered about the worth of such a conference.  What ‘secrets’ will be revealed to help content creators get the most of their business?

Is SL Pro! for you?
If you’re in SL creating content and ready to skip ahead to the next level, or if you’re a merchant and want to supercharge your business, you’ll find this conference a smart investment.  $99 gets you 3 days of sessions, informal discussion and critique by the experts.  SL Pro! won’t just be a unique opportunity for growth…it’s going to be a heck of a good time!

I don’t know who all the experts involved are as yet, but Stiletto Moody is the keynote speaker.

Build your business and create content the Stiletto Moody way: Lessons learned from Second Life’s largest virtual goods brand.”

Is Stiletto Moody Second Life’s largest brand?  Who are the other experts?

  1. Katey says:

I don’t know how they can be an expert, their marketing strategy is just awful and their customer service is beyond terrible

  2. Mabbs says:

That tagline was probably *written* by Moody. As if they can hold a candle to SexGen or XCite. Give me a break!

  3. MissySL says:

“create content the Stiletto Moody way” ie get someone else to make your sculpts, what’s so expert about that? sheesh

  4. Nine Warrhol says:

I can see why Moody was chosen. To get people to pay what they ask for their ugly shoes, they must know something right? lol

99US for that tho? No. Save your money people. Use Google and learn yourself, for no more than you pay for the connection.

  5. Truth Sayer says:

    Stiletto Moody Secret Method:
    1. Pay others to make sculpts. We won’t get into where from.
    2. Find the shittiest free scripts out there that gobble script time in sims.
    3. Mix the two together.
    4. Price them 10 times more than they are worth.
    5. Have your 18 alts all croon over the shit on the fashion feeds to drive the stupid crowd into a frenzy because after all how could 18 different bloggers be wrong.
    6. Reap rewards.
    7. Be ready to haul ass when script limits are rolled out cuz all those poor people will now have shoes that cannot be resized because they are no mod and they all want refunds.
    8. Oh and the copybotters got win cuz their ripped copies don’t have shitty scripts in them.

    There. Saved you L$30,000.

one (of the many) reasons I don’t own a pair of Stiletto Moodys is all the unwanted extras that you can’t remove, the bling, the clicky heels, and the AO, who wants shoes with an AO??

  6. Ajax Manatiso says:

I have no interest in making shoes. I do not care to listen to any bla-bla about bling shoes. I make synced couples animations and Stiletto Moody would have to pay me more than $99 for my information, because it is actually worth something.
Stilletto Moody and LL are both on the same page — SL is full of suckers so lets rip them off early and often!!

  7. Sharda says:

I’d be more interested if they completely cut the marketing portion out of the conference and stuck with soley discussing creation techniques, vendor/advert design and so on. As is, the general feel I get from the snippets I’m hearing is that the conference is more about how to sell yourself, rather than actual creation.

That and it’s IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOODY WEEK! And during standard office hours.

    • darkleyaeon says:

Standard office hours for the US, but middle of the bloody night for Europeans, totally ridiculous timings

    • blahblahblahwhatever says:

Not sure why you need SL to teach you vendor/ad design. Take a class in RL if you want to get better.

  8. moira says:

Completely and totally agree with all comments above…and that is a first! LOL!
I’ve bought many Moody shoes in the past and this year I am boycotting. The shoes are not worth the cost and there are MANY other better made shoes in SL. Also, I thought SM only put the shoes together and didn’t make ANY of them?

  9. Again Linden is attempting to use real life business methods in a virtual environment. This conference is something that happens all the time in real life. In fact my company and previous one as well has paid top dollar for outsourced sales training and seminars such as this. Will it work in SL which has a largely mom & pop shop look and feel, I would have concerns. But don’t snub things like this too quickly, you would be amazed at what you can learn from your peers in any context or environment – plus things such as this are often tax deductible :) .

    • StellaWasTaken says:

My company does this as well but I’m not sure how it would fit in this environment. Your job knows the skill levels of their employees so they have some idea what needs to be focused on during the work shops. IRL my company pays so I’m not pissed if it’s a waste of my time. I don’t know if I’d spend $99 on something that I might already know or may not have anything to do with what I sell in SL.

  10. Cassandra Serpente says:

I see from the link that moody are making the same ‘copied from Alexander McQueen’ boot that Gospel Voom is passing off as original work. Funny how they’re the first to scream about IP theft and copybotters themselves but have no problem stealing someone else’s design from RL

  11. blahblahblahwhatever says:

Okay, this is basically for brands who arent where they want to be and are easily swayed and told what to do by other brands who they view as successful. FAIL.

If you want to “get ahead” in your SL business your best bet is to go take a real life class in media/graphic design or something and bring your skills into SL.

I am not saying that people *wont* learn any new tips and tricks from this event. But it really strikes me as something more fit for complete noobs who are totally lost.

  12. blahblahblahwhatever says:

Oh I just noticed this is an in-world event.. I thought it was in RL somewhere.

Ok, even more reason to pass it up.

Better to spend your money at those Xenoversity classes and learn how to sculpt and add that to your creations. Ive not been but heard really great things about the classes.

  13. Luh says:

if it’s tax deductible for you, go for it. flocking up talking business secrets of content creation experience is no bad thing at all. there should be even more conferences like that.

cheaper ones, too. I can see an emerging market? but closing my eyes I always do.

the speakers list contains seifert surface (as I have last seen) who runs a sim next to Q (where Quarl is doing his Linden office hours). I have tinkered (expanded) code from seifert found inside the wiki. this has been sooo advanced mathematical in contrast to all the rest of SL that I must agree with you: it is usually a mom’s & pop’s world and should pay respect to its realities.

but keep an eye on Nasa or Harvard or similar, since they are with us right here inworld, too.

  14. Eeep says:

if the current ‘solution provider’ faire is anything to go by the Lindens are missing a LOT of the real talent in Secondlife for those who can flash some dollars.

  15. Monolock says:

“Other confirmed speakers include AM Radio, Babbage Linden, Catherine Omega, CJ Carnot, Kim Anubis, Pink Linden, Seifert Surface, Stella Costello, and You… if you submit a proposal for SL Pro!”

  16. I’m going. No idea if I’ll pick up any valuable tips or it’ll just be a waste of time, but I’m curious. I wish the building and scripting tracks didn’t overlap, as both are of interest. I’ll be doing the building track, since my main business is selling sculpties. Here’s hoping!

  17. Reading the actual description of the conference on the SL blog, it does not appear that there will be any marketing information provided at the conference. The entry states that the conference will focus solely on Building and Scripting.

Since there are already numerous educational groups that teach these skills in SL for a much lower price, it is difficult to see how this conference can offer enough value to match its price.

  18. kesseret says:

I got all this information at SLCC in 07 and 08. There were some real good marketing and business presentations! Most of the people that gave those presentations have long since moved on.

    I’ll pass.

  19. Troll Tastic says:

Could pool some money together and get someone to go and record the event then post it on youtube for lulz.

  20. Troll Tastic says:

or just record it anyway in case it turns out crap and then post it on youtube

  21. Someone You Don't Know says:

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight.
Scheduled for a time when most people are at work/asleep.
In-world with limited capacity for attendance anyway.
Cost-prohibitive for most except the already established large merchants.
    Babbage and Pink Linden.

I gotta say, if this wasn’t something unessential to the way SL itself was run, my head would be spinning so fast from the deja vu that I’d be doing laps around Doc Brown’s DeLorean as it traveled back about two months ago…
