Linden Lab Announces Easier Way To Purchase Abandoned Mainland

landforsale

For a long time it has been a complaint that it was difficult to purchase abandoned mainland.  According to one of the Second Life Blogs you can now purchase land owned by Governor Linden for 1L per square meter. To make Mainland parcels easier to purchase, we have implemented a new system that automatically takes [...]

Emerald in Meetings with Linden Lab

emerald

It’s happened. The Emerald Viewer has become so large that the Lindens are meeting with them to offer input and work with them, sharing ideas and implementation strategies, according to Arabella Steadham at her blog. The meetings include: A random selection of various Emerald Viewer developers, vigorously discussing the pros and cons of Very Important [...]

Script Limits

Oh, seriously. Now that we’re getting script limitations (understandably) I think the next step for LL is to attempt the ever-horrific fashionista’s nightmare… inventory limiting. Posted by Babbage Linden this afternoon: Second Life is a rich and engaging interactive world due to scripts. Every time you open a door, fly a plane, sail a boat, [...]

Linden Lab Continues Content Management Roadmap

Note the bold. As we said in our recent Content Management Roadmap blog post, we believe that Resident-created content is the heart and soul of Second Life, and we want to help everyone continue to benefit from the amazing creativity that has been displayed by our Residents inworld.  When content creators are successful, Second Life [...]

Winterfest: COME ONE, COME ALL!

winterfest1

Linden Lab ditched the favoritism, highest bidder, or whatever they used to pick the last promo campaign. This time, they asked designers this past week to submit textures of items they would like to have in the showcase. Problem was, the designers were asked to submit 512×512 textures which obviously are not coded correctly in [...]

Linden Lab Responds to the BBC : “Oh. We got baited.”

M Linden was recently interviewed via email by a reporter for the BBC who was working on a story that would be “a look at Second Life today – what’s it up to, where’s it going, why so quiet in the media after such great press a few years ago, etc.” The article was published [...]

XStreet: LL Fail

metaverseexchange

Early morning lulz brought to you in illustration by Ina Centaur on Flickr. Flickr as of yet is not paying a percentage to Linden Lab for serving Second Life residents. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Linden Lab decide or attempt to put through new policies with such swiftness. 90 days? HOLD ONTO YOU HAT [...]

Pink Rebuttals

Late last week a survey cycled around asking various Second Life merchants what their opinion was on some ideas Linden Lab had for content creators. Needless to say, folks went up in arms. They went even more up in arms after there was an interview between Pixeleen Minstral and Pink Linden at the Hearld where [...]

LL Stands Up; Trips Again

llfail

Poor Linden Lab. I feel like they’re the kid in math class who unsuspectingly had his shoes tied together and has just made a valiant attempt to stand up, only to fall flat on his face. (And this trick worked yesterday on the poor bastard!) Seriously though…. remember Linden Lab’s Content Management Roadmap, from August [...]

Soft may well be our hero!

neillife

Soft Linden rounded up people that were using the ill-fated NeilLife viewer and banned them from SL in a well-played move today. From Nexis Online: For those of you living in a cave the past few months, a guy named Neil threw together an Emerald clone and added some exploits. He ran around naked for [...]

Linden Lab & Modavia Fashion Week’s Selection Process

modaviafashionweek

It’s a bit disconcerting that most of this is coming to light after the event, which was held September 8th through the 17th of this month. Why is it just coming out now? Well… the lookbook was released! Ana Boogiewoogie, myself, and a few other folks were browsing the Second Life Fashion Week Lookbook and [...]

Anti-Copybot Features in New Linden Viewer

Who called it? ———- Forwarded message ———- From: *** Linden Date: Tue, Sep 1, 2009 Subject: Re:  SnowGlobe and copybots Additionally, the technique to stop malicious clients from stealing your clothing textures (namely, only sending out baked but not local texture data) will be in the main client in the next major release, as part [...]

3-D Mesh Importation In Second Life

The Hulk in SL – 3D Mesh – Click to view if above unsupported Debuted at SLCC, a Linden provided a demonstration of 3-D Mesh importation into Second Life. Apparent ex-Linden Qarl provided a quick bit of commentary, which included some gems such as: It speeds up rendering by computing only the final surfaces. It [...]

Hey Steampunks, Ninjas, Furries…

counterculture

Linden Lab is calling y’all “Counter-Culture” on the new website. “Counterculture (also written counter-culture) is a sociological term used to describe the values and norms of behavior of a cultural group, or subculture, that run counter to those of the social mainstream of the day,[1] the cultural equivalent of political opposition. “ To me, that [...]

XStreet SL: Rules, Finally Enforced

If you list at XStreet SL, here’s the new rules you can look forward to adhering to as Linden Lab moves to clean up the listings: Branding Guidelines Branded items may be listed or sold only by the brand or intellectual property owner or its authorized agents. A “branded item” is an item that: contains [...]

Lindens to Ban Unauthorized Copies of Real World Brands

…coming as soon as September. From New World Notes: In a long-expected announcement on the official blog yesterday, a Linden staffer laid out stringent policies on the sale of unauthorized virtual copies of real world products and brands. That includes avatars based on real world celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Barack Obama — those [...]

Living in Interesting Times.

As I am fond of sayin, “If it ain’t virtual, it ain’t real.” You’re a creative sort, right? You slave over a new script or skin for months and put it out there. Your identity and your product might be virtual but the work and possible material success resulting from your intellectual property (IP) is [...]

LL backed BBB?

theftmecca_001

It would seem that in a sudden spur of either progression or panic (probably spurred on by Rezzable‘s recent announcement)  Linden Lab has decided, “Hey. Maybe it would be cool if people had a place to report bad avatars or bad stores. Like a Better Business Bureau.” Ah, there are lights on sometimes at the [...]

Things LL Breaks: Vendor Permissions

fullpermJIRA

Linden Lab upgraded the viewer and broke vendor permissions again. Vendors have been distributing items full perm all over the grid. (…) Now observe newly created “Boxed item for sale” folder in the inventory. It shows “Item for sale” in there with the correct permissions (no modify, no transfer). Now rez this “Item for sale” [...]

This April 1st…

Make your vote COUNT at Linden Lab! The Resident Choice Awards (gag) are out, and each avatar (!!! possible cheat alert!) gets to cast their vote. What are the Second Life Residents’ Choice Awards? As the creators of the vast and varied world of Second Life, the Residents are the final authority on what is [...]

LL Starts Cleaning Up

Due to the recent XStreetSL and OnRez aquisitions (of which LL will be phasing OnRez out) there has been quite a bit of sweeping done by Linden Lab in order to clean up. Copyrighted logos and such have been disappearing from XStreetSL, such as this Hello Kitty Backpack whose counterpart is still on OnRez.

LL: Open Mouth, Insert Foot

It seems Linden Lab is running into all kinds of snafoos this evening. Not only are they spamming residents with multiples of their “XStreet SL” purchase announcements, they have been taking resident-owned images without permission! The graphic on the left is the email from Linden Lab, with the cutout of the original flickr images in [...]
