Metavirtual Clothing Template Tutorials

The Keep Calm and Keep Shopping event is a two week event featuring some of the most fantastic stores in Second Life!  We’ll have a wide range of stores including furniture, apparel, animations, houses etc

All participating stores will have one (or more) brand new, exclusive, never to be sold again item(s) placed in their stores. It’s not a discount event, items will be full price. It’s also not a charity event, all the money will go straight to the designers.

We need more events that are aimed purely at Second Life designers, the money they earn goes towards creating new and amazing items for us, paying land rent/ tier and for some even helps cover their real life bills. It’s time to say thank you to all the fabulous creators that make Second Life the way it is today, they don’t get thanked enough!

The event runs from May 14th until May 28th. All participating stores will be listed on the blog along with their slurls.

There’s an inworld group for shoppers and a seperate one for designers and bloggers!

First FaMESHed cycle is May 1st – 21st.

After much anticipation and hard work, we are proud to introduce a new monthly event that focuses on mesh items. FaMESHed is a concept, combining quality and creativity with the attributes of Mesh. Whether it be Clothing, Accessories, Home & Garden, Props or Footwear, FaMESHed is excited to bring all of them together in one location.

Mesh has hit the grid running and FaMESHed is making sure that you don’t miss any of it. We are starting this event with a selection of talented Designer/Creators that have incorporated Mesh into their newest releases. These Designers will be releasing exclusive items for the event that will only be available at FaMESHed during the 3 week cycle. You will not be able to get these items anywhere else during that time, so this is an event not to be missed.

We are extending an invitation to all to join us for the first of many FaMESHed events. The first cycle will be launched May 1st and end on the 21st of May. Many of you may have heard that Suzy Yue and Gnu Aeon were involved in an auto accident while traveling this past week.

As their friends and colleagues, we’re banding together to show support and to help take away one of the worries that may be on their minds. Namely the upkeep and maintenance of Running Lady Studios. We’ve decided to hold a benefit show to raise funds to help cover the cost of the SIM — a place that many, many of us have as a resource in our work.

The show is to be held at the Running Lady Studio Theater  on Thursday, 4/26 at 6-8pm SLT/PDT.

To open the show with a bang, Wytchwhisper Sadofsky will grace us with her beautiful voice in a 1-hour set.

Beginning at 7pm, veteran players from The Actors’ Sandbox and members of Suzy’s Super Cast & Crew will perform selected monologues and scenes taken from the most hilarious parts of the workshop series held every week at Running Lady.

We hope you’ll join us for an outburst of community, entertainment, and outright fun. It all starts Thursday night at 6pm in Second Life!

“Mesh-Whore of Babylon”

In the blog post titled “When Pigs Fly (at Fashion For Life)”  the author (Harper, who is pretty high up on the FFL totem pole) is quoted as saying:

Nave Fall is the clown who wrote the BOSL article and then mysteriously went out of town when the shit hit the bad journalism fan.

Also further down in the article is:

Thank you especially to Jenica Landar, who did double duty, Catty Loon, Keira Soulstar, and Quella Quan, who all put stuff on THIS blog and saved me so much time and effort and made this blog informative, fun, and absolutely beautiful.

Quella Quan apparently wrote for the FFL Blog and also writes for “Associated SL Press” which is part of BOSL. She’s also been very vocal  in the comment section of the BOSL article and the subsequent apology article.

In the apology on FFL they said:

Any other articles about this were not approved and did not come from Relay for Life, Fashion for Life or myself.

It appears that is very much in doubt. Your thoughts?

1: BOSL did an article on their Associated SL Press site that was a “Blogger Wall of Shame” for Fashion for Life. The author was a complete douche canoe and for somebody so “heavily into fashion” he can’t take a fucking picture to save his life. The article was rude, inaccurate, and frankly further proof that BOSL is full of people whose qualifications seem to be “We totally gave Frolic head”

2: During the discovery of this article it was discovered that the actual official Fashion For Life Blogger website has done the exact same thing. Further proving that just because you’re involved in a charity doesn’t mean you don’t get to act like a classless cock-taco as well.

3: Apparently to these people there is no such thing as a valid excuse. Have kids? Too bad! You must blog for this video game. Have a RL Job? Too bad! You must blog shit given to you for this video game charity! Have an illness? Too bad! Even though they are a charity fighting cancer, being sick simply will not cut the fucking mustard.

4: Even if everything given to the blogger as a “REVIEW COPY” is shit you must blog it, you must say nice things about it. Because if you don’t then you’re on the wall of shame.

5: Apparently people were contacted so that they could be made aware that they were on the wall of shame. Yes, people from Fashion for Life contacted Bloggers to let them know this shit.

6: People will remember this shit. FFL’s petty and classless actions have hurt the Relay For Life Charity. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

So FFL people, apologize. Right fucking now.

Fashion For Life hasn’t even issued an apology. Instead they puss’d out and redacted the names they crossed out and changed their wording to say:

We here at SCD have kept screen caps of the original posting of theirs. Deleting it won’t make it go away FFL.

I’ve been getting about 10-20 notecards a day involving Phishing scams in Second Life. I’ve even written about poor Katy’s experience with  her own account. Which to update that post – Katy got her account back after about 4 or 5 days and she hasn’t reported any problems with her account so far. Linden Lab has been very good about responding quickly on this issue.

However it appears the scammers are using the accounts they scam to spread more phishing links. I have images of an actual phishing link here and I’m going to show you a few things that will tip you off on a link and also a sure way to check on a link and confirm if it’s fraud or not. (Using Firefox but I am sure Chrome does this too)

In this image you look at the url. It is something like marketplacesi.altervista.tld. I’ve changed the last part to .tld for a reason – just don’t go there. But as you can see the URL says Marketplace. You think  you wouldn’t be fooled by a single word  but when one is tired or not paying attention then words appear differently.  The login screen looks and feels real except when you hovered over the “JOIN NOW” button on the SPOOF you don’t get a link to the join form on Secondlife.com like you do on the original. But everything else looks pretty solid, except entering your info could lead to trouble here.

Well I’m here and I suspect there’s something wrong with this page. I wanted to view the page source. So I went to tools->web developer->page source and got a FUN SURPRISE!

Firefox will even TELL YOU it is a forgery. Too bad it won’t tell you as you land on it, I can’t figure that out but users need to be very careful and aware when sent links. Even when friends send you links.

I wanted to give it a lot of exposure because people are losing their accounts due to this. And all the notecards sent to me don’t give any specific information but apparently Auryn Beorn is passing around a very awesome notecard which is detailed in this blog post here http://blog.nalates.net/2012/03/07/phishing-no-thanks/

And I honestly send an email like this to everyone in my organization once every 6 months. It’s amazing what you will click on when you aren’t paying attention.

If you fall victim to this please contact Linden Lab immediately so they can lock your account and get it back to you asap. You will have to provide proof of identity in order to receive your account back.

I was going to do this big long write up about how I’d finally post about something Second Life related since it’s Leap Day but the whole day got taken up by shit I didn’t want to deal with so I’m going to skip all that and get to the meat and potatoes of my post. Also since this will be published March 1st it seemed talking about Leap Day at any length would be half past retarded.

When I started “fashion” blogging in Second Life my goal was to show affordable and decent clothing for regular guys. I liked to call it “Real World Wear”. Basically the concept was: “if this were the real world and I put an outfit together would it get my ass kicked by going outside in it?” With all that being said this is actually fairly hard to do in Second Life, a giant chunk of the male clothing is “runway” oriented and not really ideal for everyday wear.  However, there are some trends in Second Life male fashion that I just cannot fucking stand anymore.

1: Diaper Pants: I want to travel back in time. I want to find the time and place where a bunch of fashion designers (probably some goddamn hipsters) were sitting around their ironic loft when they decided “Hey, do you know what would be awesome? Pants that looked like we totally just shit in them!” and then I want to set them on fire. If you want to sag your pants then eat something other than what your art school budget allows and get some hips to sag pants with.  It gives off the impression that you’re compensating. “Hey look, I have a micro-penis but if I make the crotch of my pants really low the ladies will thing I’m hung like Dirk Diggler.” Newsflash! Nobody is fooled.

STOP THIS SHIT NOW

2: Giant Holes In Ears: I remember when this first started it was pretty unique and the holes were alright. Then everybody and their fucking uncle decided to stretch their ears to the point you could fit coke cans in them. (Side Note: Hipsters get really upset when you try to get them to hold your beer that way.) Needless to say it’s now incredibly overdone and it’s created a new metric. The bigger your ear hole is the less likely you are to have a job that contributes to society or pay taxes.

3: The “I’m a fancy stick” look: A growing trend seems to be to stretch out your torso to super lengths, shorten your legs, and make your shoulders as close together as possible. Congratulations, you’re anatomically stupid.

4: Dress shoes, no socks: Are you even fucking trying anymore? Unless you’re wearing sandals put some goddamn socks on.

5: Highwater Pants (capris for men): IT DOES NOT FLOOD IN SECOND LIFE, I do not care what half your calves look like, stop it.

6: Pants Tucked Into Boots: In my life there has only been two acceptable circumstances for this. Option 1: You are a pig farmer and don’t want to get shit on your pants. Option 2: You are a biker with biker boots and don’t want your jeans to burn. Anything other than that looks stupid. And I don’t quite believe I have to say this..but guys…under NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO EVER WEAR COWBOY BOOTS AND SHORTS.

7: Brush/Comb Your Fucking Hair: This is actually less of a problem than it used to be but there is a large amount of new hair out there that is under the impression that guys often like going out looking like the fucking an electrical socket.

And I ran, I ran so far away

8: Prim Bulges: This one is by request from a female actually. Look fellas, we know you’re a guy (at least we hope we can tell.) There is no need to attach a prim to your underwear or jeans to accentuate  the fact. See Diaper Pants argument for reasons why.

9: Shirts that expose midriff: This is not a rerun of Oz. There is no need for the prison bitch chic.

10: This: Apparently during my Second Life Sabbatical (Where I didn’t leave Second Life forever, then decided to pen down a giant article about how it’s everybody’s fault but my own that a bunch of people hate me, then come back on an alt) vagina neck tank tops became okay.

They are never ever okay. Also super deep v-necks are not okay. Just go ahead and go shirtless, the ladies will dig your hipster chest. Bonus points if you have quasi-meaningful song lyrics tattoos to give the appearance you’re a deep and sensitive.

These are just ten things in the world of male fashion that make me want to do lines of borax. There are more but frankly I’m done talking about it. Fin and stuff.

Wait..not Fin. I did use other people’s stuff in this blog post. I did my best to hide the identity, and not name names. This does a couple of things. 1: Proves I’m not a total dick and 2: Allows you to look like a total tool by outing yourself and then getting mad at me about it.  Moral of the Story: Don’t ruin my intentional vague by being a tool.
