It’s happened. The Emerald Viewer has become so large that the Lindens are meeting with them to offer input and work with them, sharing ideas and implementation strategies, according to Arabella Steadham at her blog.

It’s very nice to see the meetings are no longer secret knowledge and the rest of you might know this is going on as well. Prokofy is probably shitting herself right now.
I hope that LL doesn’t provide their input, otherwise we get another stagnant and lame viewer like the one LL puts out.
The best part about open source client code is that there’s always someone who will do it BETTER.

At this moment, I’m really hoping to hell that emerald doesn’t team up with LL… I’m not smelling anything promising coming out of this meet.
The day before jiggly boobs almost no one used it. In the following weeks now everyone, everywhere you go has a green tag. This indicates that if LL added jiggly boobs to the release viewer it would probably go back to normal with most people on the official viewer. Maybe the Emerald team might be able to get the lab to open their eyes and pull their fingers out of their ears long enough to realize this.
I was using Emerald before the jiggly boobs, even before it was a workaround, and I thought I was late to the “I <3 Emerald Viewer" party. Seemed like a lot of were using it before that, and enjoying the viewer even without jiggles.
Not even. Emerald was super popular way before the jiggly boobs.
Kind of scares me that people get off on pixel boobs.
Popular but not by any means mainstream. Jiggly boobs put it on the map and the week after that feature came out the user base exploded well beyond the initial loyal users. The great majority of SL users had never even heard of it prior to that release.
If it is good LL will insert dicklet and fuck it up.
I surmise Kingdon is very upset that his cherry contract he awarded to his golf pals to build a new viewer (that is apparently worthless) is for naught since it is pretty obvious nobody in their right minds would keep using it as soon as they saw a decent viewer.
That and the whole thing with encrypted IMs pissed off LL. They do so like to read all the pervy stuff going on and see what all their in world alt’s business competition is up to.
Prokofy no longer uses emerald because “she saw fatty kidd using it and trouble always follows him”. Which is of course, untrue. Horrible Club Music follows him wherever he goes.
I think I side with Ai…thinking about the whole xstreet escapade… I think Emerald shouldn’t team up just yet.

I heard about this awhile ago. Not a good thing. Judging from LLs track record they win gold for fucking good things up. They have 0 understanding of what users really want and need.

I used Emerald during their first release and remember when it was hush hush back then between users. I don’t think LL can help the Modular team maybe they can help LL not suck on viewer releases. I just hope that LL doesn’t try to tinker with Emeralds options.
I never used Emerald and never will, it’s a criminal viewer.
I’m not “shitting myself” because weeks ago, I heard Fractured Crystal brag in the Concierge group over and over that he was “in talks” with the Lindens and “Cyn Linden” was the only one not getting with the Emerald program. Er, too bad, so sad, because Cyn Linden is the VP of customer service, and she trumps the little script kiddies-turned-Linden that make up the little Emerald pals.
I have a feeling the light at the end of this tunnel is a train coming, because Emerald will not comply with LL guidelines, LL will not be thrown, despite their hippie technocommunist licentiousness, and Emerald will have to yield.
It’s going to be fun to watch. Watch for a defanged Emerald viewer coming soon to a sim near you.

I dont like Emerald viewer, it slows down my sl experience much. With LL viewer i have no such problems.
Viewers are dangerous … except for the LL viewer, people can secretly steal your second-life passwords (and possessions) with custom viewers.
To be on the safe side, use a proxy.
