From Starley’s Blog:
In the 1.23 viewer, LL has changed the order of alpha layers on the avatar. This means that the slider eyebrows and makeup will now draw ON TOP OF your skin instead of underneath it. Why is this a problem? If your skin is permissioned “no modify” as many, many skins are and the creator did not set all makeup sliders to zero before applying their custom head texture, your skin will now look like the guy in the above photo and you will not be able to fix it. All of your no mod skins will be broken and it will be upon the creator to repair/replace every skin they’ve ever sold.

Vote on the JIRA to fix this issue here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-12962
(Why do we have to vote on a JIRA? Shouldn’t the Lindens just FIX stuff they break like this? Do we really have to convince them WHY it’s important? ARGH. I’m so frustrated.)

I’m sorry, but SL is just completely fucked. We can vote and submit shit on Jira and it’ll never be fixed.
I’ve been having problems with my avatar’s skin becoming covered in whatever is surrounding me. (Aka the ground and chat boxes.) This has been going on for the PAST YEAR AND A HALF. I’ve contacted LL, Submitted tickets, filled out a thing on Jira, no response.
Not only that, but I can not wear Armidi clothing at all anymore because their copyright covers my body completely. WTF??
SL got huge and Lindens can’t keep up because the owners/whatever are too cheap to hire more support.
This is why I barely log on anymore. :/
Ana- have you looked into updating your graphic card drivers? A lot of those problems are caused by issues relating to your graphics drivers- while LL is lousy at doing anything about it, you might be able to find the problem on your end and fix it (I was able to, eventually).
I….sort of understand what they thought they were doing with this “fix”- however, it is completely irrelevant for the way content in SL works currently. The built in makeup options are, quite frankly, done very messily and badly, which is one part of why we use skins on the tattoo layers on the first place- even the skins that take advantage of the ability to change what were underlying layers, have to very carefully alpha out the built in options so they don’t look….well, horrible. I’ve wished for years that the nailpolish on skins worked as makeup- under instead of over, because then it would be easy to provide a tintable nailpolish layer built into your skin that wouldn’t look like you applied your nailpolish while drunk in a moving vehicle.
I’m not sure what is up with LL changing the system lately- some I’m looking forward to (the ability to mask out parts of the avatar! Woo! We’ve only been begging for it consistently since the day SL opened! And FINALLY untinting the avatar from grey so attachments could match!), but things like this just perplex me entirely. (As does the adult thing, because if they were going to do this, how about doing it in 2005 instead of now? It’s not like it wasn’t an issue then, or in the years between then and now.) I’m still waiting for the fix on the alpha of the shirt/undershirt layers, which would take all of 30 seconds to fix, but they appear to have forgotten they promised us months ago.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I did everything possible on my part. I even switched out graphics cards for it as well as update my computer completely to meet the recommended requirements for SL. :/
We’re all very excited about this over on SLU, let me tell you!
http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/28738-another-bright-ll-idea-re.html
first the good part, I think this change is leading to features we have all been asking for. The bad part is just what some here and over in sluniverse describe. there needs to be a way for “legacy” content to be viewed correctly, such as a feature that the user can set the layer order.
to Ana: you can im me in world if you wish and i will try to help you solve the problem. The things you describe really should be fixed.
I already voted on this Jira, but im wondering why not just make this a option like lsl and mono?
Found a Linden post regarding this issue over on the SL Forums/Resident Answers:

Thanks for the feedback! Like Nyx said, the reason we have public nightly viewer releases and Release Candidates is so that we can be aware of issues that unintentionally end up negatively affecting a lot of residents. This change was made as a result of bug reports in PJIRA regarding inconsistent ordering of texture layers between the lower body, upper body, and face which resulted in broken content. In attempting to fix this broken content it appears we’ve broken different content (that relied on the previously existing bug). We were in fact trying to fix something that was already broken, not just arbitrarily making layering changes. http://jira.secondlife.com/images/i…icons/smile.gif
We’re aware of the issue and are in the process of fixing it. In the meanwhile, thanks again for continuing to use the public nightly and RC viewers and reporting issues you find, so we that can be made aware of them before they make it into an official viewer release. We don’t want to break your content, so please continue to report any issues you find in pre-release viewers so we can promptly fix them.
Didn’t think this would effect me until I put on a skin today and realized I had orange eyebrows. I don’t think I can pull that look off. All of my skins are ok except for sets I bought at a certain store.
