Yes, at the fantastic What’s New in Second Life blog, you too can get ripped off into purchasing Eloh’s Free Skins from Another Shop for a full $600L a piece (slightly less painful than our previous reseller) or $2k for a FAT PACK! Barely modified skins, woohoo!

Gee golly. It’s hilarious that the skin is named “Honesty“. But hey, that’s just me and my sick, twisted sense of humor.
You can always go check out the blog and the store!
Marni Grut was on the case this evening too… turns out the shop has also hijacked RaC skins! Gross.
And I love that the ad says “There hasn’t been anything like this”.
Isn’t “What’s New?” just a multi-use blog that details new releases? Or is it ’nuff â„¢’s blog? Either way, I found this line in the post hilarious:
“Tonight we add a new Face to our already existing Skin Line, this Line is called Honesty and is a mix out of our popular Juliette and Angel Skin.”
I guess they forgot that they used the Eloh Eliot skin too, assuming they actually used their “other” skins…
You know again, it’s not that people re-sell the skins. It’s that they think the rest of us are stupid enough not to notice which skin they’re actually selling. -_-
Ewwww! wtf have they done to the nose??? I thought it was virtually impossible to make these skins look bad, but somehow they have managed it.
I’m particularly enamoured with the ‘there hasn’t been anything like this’ line.
pffffffffffffffft!
I’m with Creamy.
The “There hasn’t been anything like this”.. friggin’ hilarious. xD
that made me snicker too…lolz
I don’t think that’s the skin that looks poorly – I think it’s the lighting and the shape of the nose.
That being said, Marni’s dug a bit and found out these guys are reselling RaC skins too! I’m going to look into them further.
I knew you would love that.
<3
jeebus. people like this make me sad, especially when there’s the great Another Skin Fundraiser going on.
Absolutely the same skin. She has changed the lips and the eyes somewhat, but the distinctive collarbone of RaC skins is there and doesn’t change at all.
I also noticed that the RaC eye shadow looks like it was attempted to smudge away in the corner of the left eye on this new skin, but you can kind of see it..it looks like a shadow.
Don’t normally jump on this bandwagon, but I love RaC skins so this has really pissed me off.
Great job all!
“What’s New” is just a fashion feed like “Fashion Planet” – the actual blog that belongs to, Jasmin Marquez of “’nuff” is:
http://nuffbodytalk.blogspot.com/
Interestingly anyone who ventures to infringe on “’nuff’s” copyright is threatened with with the promise of a lawsuit in Jasmin’s profile.
(all found in less than 10 minutes of research)
Side note, while I support pointing out rip offs, it may be a good idea to figure out who you’re targeting before posting a blog about it.
“There hasn’t been anything like this” in the last 5 minutes. Honesty? ROFL.
Wow, I really want to read DEPTH magazine now. You know, because they’re so kind and cordial.
I know. HONESTY SKINS – THERE HASN’T BEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS (in the last 5 minutes)…
Cher, we should start doing marketing for them..
I was just reading that ’nuff blog and saw this in their ‘About’ section:
“Unlike other Skin Designers, ’nuff offers you the Real Deal. I do not create those “realistic” Photoskins, I want something special. It took me a while, to find what I like. Now I got it
’nuff mixes “realistic” with “unrealistic” Look. It makes no sense for me, to design the same crap as alot of others do here in Second Life.”
rofl, riiiiiiiiight. Honey you don’t create anything! You just rip off other people’s work and try to claim it’s your own. /fail
Oh, no unkindness intended – just a suggestion. I’d hate to see the owner of “What’s New” taking heat for someone else’s poor decision.
But thanks for the mention!
Thanks for that clarification btw Kritianne. I thought “What’s New?” was just a feed. Incidentally the ’nuff creater posted a rebuttal on her blog a short while ago. Pretty telling I think.
http://nuffbodytalk.blogspot.com/2008/01/unbelivable.html
Personally I really appreciate when people make these comments because I want to make sure I am paying people for their work and I don’t always recognize when skins have been copied. (Though it was pretty easy to catch this one even for me :p).
Between the audacity of charging so much for so little work and that unprofessional rant, I think that’s one proprietor I can avoid giving my business to. :p
I just read the ‘rebuttal’ and omigod I cannot stop laughing…
“That being said, Marni’s dug a bit and found out these guys are reselling RaC skins too! I’m going to look into them further.”
Just to clarify, Marni didn’t dig for anything; my friend Melanie and I were looking at the other skins in this shop when she arrived, because we were suspicious, and we *told* her that they were selling modified RaC skins (body shading, etc identical; face significantly uglified).
TAP’s new line is also suprisingly familar. Seems the chance of working on someone else’s templates is too good to pass up……….for anyone in SL. Don’t really know if this is what Eloh had in mind.
Gosh I just read Nuff’s comment on this on their blog. Regardless of whether they are stealing or not, I would not purchase from someone with such a foul mouth. They clearly have no idea how to present a professional image to the public. They should really employ a spellchecker and a bar of soap to wash their mouth out!
P.S. I am currently trying to make a dress from scratch: my first ever attempt and it is sooooooo hard. I knew it would be hard but I didn’t realise quite HOW difficult. So to see others hard work get abused in this fashion really is making me annoyed now. Time people realised you cannot build a profitable, legitimate business in either life unless you put in the work. Your own!
rotfl.
“Maybe some of you Girls take the time and go there to bitch or just shut up since it isn’t your damn Business. I hope I’m clear and you get it.” –’Nuff creator
Cracks me up.
Gee golly Viv; want a blog? Nothing quite like being snarky about who gets the credit.
Does anyone else find it extremely annoying when they go to the Fashion Planet feed and see a designer blog their new item and then the post above it is a copy of the same exact post from the “What’s New” blog?
I mean come on… really? Is this fashion reporting people? As though the Fashion Planet feed in and of itself wasnt enough?
And as far as the skin issue goes … now that I know that Eloh had included a disclaimer and asked that her name be left on the skins – I find it all very ironic and funny.
Why are people so stupid? I swear, if you are losing in your Second Life I don’t even want to know what your first life is like.
I don’t get that “What’s New” blog. I really don’t. If it’s for anyone to post, why not make it publicly available? But whichever, that’s neither here nor there.
I don’t blame Eloh for adding a disclaimer. I really don’t – not with idiots like this running around out there, pulling the wool over the eyes of new players when they could get the same item for free elsewhere.
lol @ “I swear, if you are losing in your Second Life I don’t even want to know what your first life is like.”
I think the best part is the ’nuff creator saying RaC must have used a B.I.B. Er yeah, sure….somehow I really doubt that.
It’s disgusting to see that someone act that way. This is sadly going to discourage other people from doing something nice for SL residents. What a shame
“The Rumor we would sell RAC skins are not given eighter. We do sell a skin which we purchased on a Market Place in first place, and modified those. Before now alot of people start yelling, we did purchase the “merchant package” which also allows us to work with these skins. Since we purchase those Skin Bases arround 5 – 20 Dollar we keep our Skin prices low with 600 L$. I think those Skin Base purchases should not effect our Customers. If RaC does the same, well congratulations then you should start screaming how fucked you are, cuse I would fell hella stupid paying 4000 L$ for an already existing Skin, just remodeled to match SL’s templates.”
Just thought someone may want to see what part I’m talking about.
Tete a Pied say nothing about Eloh on their new line…….and they are charging 1200 a skin!!! No-one is up in arms over it……..wonder why? If you go after one designer for such behaviour……you should be going after them all, or is it easier to take on a company like Nuff? I’m not defending anyone, the owner of Nuff and that embarassing post was cringeworthy, and made me glad my kids are too young to read yet! But by the same token larger companies like Tete a Pied are doing exactly the same as Nuff and it goes under the radar…….and people coo over their new skin line, and new players save up to fork out the cash because of the reputation the company has in game. Who’s the worst deceiver? Someone doing what Eloh intended, albeit tackily, or someone using their name and reputation to make people part with 1200 lindens? I still dont think either situtations are exactly what Eloh intended, but when you give people something they always want to take more. grr
Valor, the reason why no one is “up in arms” over the pricing of TaP’s Boutique line is because Roslin made the skins herself.
Oops, I meant “CJ and Roslin made the skins THEMSELVES.”
Blimey Viv clearly i stole your thunder……. meh you got scooped deal
CJ and Roslin didnt steal nething!? There new line was one they worked on? If there ripped show me the proof.
Thank you, Mosie & Marni, I can assure everyone that the Parfait skin is entirely our own work!
The Eloh may be a fine skin, but Roslin and I are very proud of what we do and we strive for our own unique character. If we based it off of some elses work it just wouldn’t be a Tete skin, so you’ll never see one in our store.
CJ
Valor, I suggest you check your facts carefully before you question the creative integrity and business ethics of others in such a public manner, your last post is both libelous and insulting to our customers, whatever your intention. An apology would be the least you could offer in this case.
I appologise wholeheartedly. I never said that you stole anything or “ripped” the skins off. To me they look terribly similar to Eloh’s work. But you are right I shouldnt have said anything.I will keep my opinions to myself next time.
Wow, the crazy girl selling the modded skins changed the original rant on her blog. I honestly can’t really make out what her point is. I think it has something to do with ‘talentless Blogger admins’ though. I’m really hoping English isn’t her native language. Also, I’ve had a few people tell me she isn’t publishing the comments they made. Anyone else want to deluge her with comments?
I just want to point out that Eloh did say people could sell mod versions of the skins and this little witch hunt is getting a tad tiring. I understand that you find issue with people who do this and that is fine, but can we stop the witch hunt at least on the blog. Yes, I don’t write for this blog or any other fashion blog/mag, but as a reader, I want to see your latest fashion finds that the readers of the blog can take and make their own. Kind of like what type of things where being blogged about last year. I don’t think this blog was intended to be a “creator of drama” blog when it began. And yes, things change, but this change on the blog isn’t a good one.
PS. The curse words on ’nuff’s post isn’t the way to win any argument, even though your little witch hunts can be grinding, at least you aren’t chewing and spewing all over the place
PPS. Fashion Planet blogged your new coats, and they liked them.
Adia Clary
The problem is, Adia, that people like this take Eloh’s skins, don’t give her credit for the base (since they’re barely modified) and are reselling them at prices that Eloh herself never sold them at… which really takes advantage of people shopping for skins. They’re paying $600L for these without knowing they can get them for free elsewhere.
This has nothing to do with drama, this has to do with respect and giving credit where credit is due – something many people seem to have a problem doing.
Just because someone makes something available AS A REFERENCE doesn’t mean you should take 150% advantage of it. ‘Nuff, and the previous shop, are taking advantage of people without a thought about it. By blogging it and putting a trackback to Eloh’s website/shop, we hope to discourage this sort of half-assed behavior.
Ana Lutetia blogged my coats, yes, that was very nice of her to do.
No one is under any obligation to do anything with regards to the skins that were sold deliberatley with full permissions unless it was specifically stated a the outset when they bought them.
Another day, another witch hunt. No one is buying your “think of the children!” routine Tenshi. Your many witch hunts are completely self serving, created to either slander content creators who you perceive as being in competition with you or to increase traffic to this blog.
Why do we keep feeding this internet troll?
And to CJ Carnot, I suggest you speak to the Paper Couture people who have also been slandered in public on this blog. There are real world consequences to slander and deffamation on the internet and no one is above those laws.
While kinda disrespectful and funny (with the honesty name and all that), this person is allowed to sell the skins. She did edit them. I wouldn’t say $400-600 a skin worth of editting O_o but that’s her call.
If there is anything we should get out of this it’s from the ‘Nuff post from yesterday. And that is:
You can buy skin textures off Content Paradise that are intended for Poser models and then fit those textures on the second life body map and there you go! Your own skin line!
My mom bought me poser for god knows why, before I ever came to second life, and I used to treat it like my own very boring version of the SIMs. While I am aware of the resources you can get from Poser sites that include textures for skin and clothing, as well as poses, and objects (Chip midnight has a tutorial on creating a sculpt mesh from a poser head in 3d Studio Max, so I’m assuming you can do the same to poser objects like hats etc now) I always thought it was kinda sketchy to sell any of it on Second Life because people on content paradise are just like us, except instead of SL they create for Poser.
I also always wondered if other people did buy textures off CP or other sites like it, because you see a lot of poser library poses for sale on Second life and also.. as you see with copy-botting and stuff like this, people love taking the easy way out.
I wouldn’t use Poser textures, because Poser tends to be photoreal and I’m more into painterly stuff. BUT if someone is selling full perm textures on CP, I wonder if it’s it ok to use them in SL.
And by textures from Poser, I mean real already made human body maps. Not like pictures of models from different angles that you can also purchase in packs for 3d modeling which have caused skin controversy in the past because people have used the same model packs (ie- ND and FNKY skins) . From those it’s like putting together a really fucking hard puzzle: a nipple from this one, an ear from this one etc etc.
The CP stuff is like phase two, after you got those and made your skin. For Secondlife it would be one of those toddler puzzles where you have 12 pieces and you just need to make them fit the map.
I’m just rambling now.
uuuuuum.
I will stop here and say I love Eloh. She rocks. I love the skins a lot. I personally wouldn’t feel right selling them unless I put at least 6 hours + into edits and even then I don’t think I could sell them for more than she did originally.
Studio 54: Nice cover. No, sweetpea, I don’t think there’s any case for slander on the Paper Couture post. Sorry, it won’t cut it in court. Nice try to flip the tables though, that was cute.
No her first language isn’t English but I think she does fine with it
. I knew her personally she is a very nice person… I think I’d be a little upset to with all this.
@ noam, ever use an AO in SL, or an animation or a pose ball? The majority of those would either have been created in Poser or bought from sites such as CP. If it’s sold as a merchant resource, then it’s an accepted practice in the community to use it in your commercial or non commercial projects. When I create a mercahnt resource, pretty much the only stipulation I have is that it isnt used in it’s original form, and cant be resold as such. Example, if i make a texture for V4, it cant be resold as a texture, but I have no problem with you using it to render an awesome pic, or create a new character, then sell that.
So to the rest of the people here who assumed Nuff’s owner was talking about BIAB, she wasnt. If you had a look at the first pics she posted, they were textures from V3 or V4 (Victoria) and would take a massive amount of work to get them to fit the SL character mesh. For a start in Poser, the ears are on the upper template, not the head! It would be alot more than 6 hours work for sure!
Suprisingly there is a whole community of artists away from SL, and also very surprisingly the world doesnt revolve around SL. Oh and BTW, 3d graphic artist in rl.
Valor- OMG. I went into poser and looked at my miki skins and you are completely right, it would take a long time to put that on a SL template. The head took me about 15 minutes, so I was getting cocky (ears, a cinch!)
Then I looked at the body textures and that was a WHOLE other story.
Ok so the front body to anyone unfamiliar, is fine, it’s not to hard to put on the mesh. The back is not fine. it’s as if they made a skin suit and sliced it down the back so it sticks out on both sides of the front.
And then I looked at the legs an arms and those look like a chernobyl mutant baby nightmare.
I completely take back any weirdness I felt about using CP! stuff. It would require a lot of work to get it into in SL.
Didn’t Eloh say that she didn’t want her name off any resells?
As for the “people have the right to know” comment, how many people here wouldn’t notice it as an Eloh skin? Yes, the average noob/non-content creator/avatar might not know, but the blog isn’t targeted toward them, it isn’t like they are going to do research about the background of the skins, it is something they like and they are willing to pay. Unless ’nuff was forcing people to buy these skins then I can see where you can say the owner is taking advantage of the people, but again if people want to pay it is their decision to spend their money how they see fit.
That’s about enough, Adia. Commenting is closed on this. I’ve stated my reasoning, and I refuse to repeat myself.
