For anyone looking to change their studio, the VR Foundry Pose Stand Pro is awesome. Been using it for about a year and it does anything you can think of with HUD controls.

Why is anything for sale? I thought SL6B was not supposed to be encrusted with stores. If LL allowed stores a lot more people would have applied and they would not have had to reopen applications after nobody was interested.
So basically SL6B is just the biggest and most ugly and laggiest mall on the grid. That’s nice. The future of virtual worlds indeed lmao.
I promised myself last year, on my second visit that SLB is nothing but a laggy supermall, and that I am not going to make time to visit again.

I’m not sure that Greg is the primary owner or creator of the studio — I think that’s OomPapaMowMow. I can’t fault the Photolife Studio 3.0 — the complexity and variety of scripts and options and all that, a lot of time has been invested in it. If you use studios heavily and use a wide range of textures, effects, props, etc., then I’d guess it’s worth the investment. I haven’t seen anything to match it, and Photolife 3.0 has significantly cut back on the prims being used. I have one that I won from the RFL Clothing Fair photo contest, and while I use it very seldom, it’s fairly impressive for what it is.
Mostly, I shoot in-world or I composite by just shooting against a full bright green screen. I’ve heard the VR Foundry Pose Stand is very good, but another option is Tillie Ariantho’s pose stand. It’s relatively cheap (I think L$500 or L$600) and is quite full-featured.

Being one of the people that were featured in the logs on here (Billy Tammas obviously
), I just want to add that I am absolutely astounded that these people didn’t understand that they were in the wrong. Even the public apology they put out was emphasized on the fact that Darkley had AR’ed them, rather than the fact that they’d illegally copied, uploaded and attempted to sell someone elses intellectual property.
Darkley is one of the best people I know for being supportive and trying to help people, which she has done with this group over and over. Yet, despite that, she’s been shunned for their friends, she’s now had this happen and been accused of the one causing trouble.
This lot really are an amatuer bunch of arrogant ignoramous’, and thats me being complimentary about them.

I agree that this is unfortunate, and that it was handled poorly by the PhotoLife people. But it sounds like Darkley is misunderstanding “all rights reserved” on Flickr — she needs to apply a Creative Commons license to her photostream so that specifically it says that her work cannot be used for commercial purposes or that she must be given credit, etc. Then, at least, she has ground to stand on.

“All rights reserved” means that the owner of the copyright and the copyrighted work have not given permission for anyone else to make use of the work. Giving credit is not relevant if all rights have been reserved. You may contact the owner and let her or him know what you want to do with the photo and ask for permission.
Note that in the US, when the copyright owner has not given blanket permissions (as under Creative Commons, for example), copyright law gives the owner exclusive rights to reproduce the work and to display it publicly, among several others. http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#106

We know that we our work becomes property of businesses when we enter contests…because we agree to it prior.
They just opened up a group for sharing on flickr, and decided to ignore our copyrights.
I’ve seen her questions go unanswered. And you know what? I’ve also seen Darkley help out A LOT of people who use photoLIFE. She is an immense help…there are only two or three (MAYBE four) other CPs who actually do this. And she’s not even a CP.
You can’t knock sense into ppl who think they can make up their own rules as they go just because “it’s SL.”
…the system itself is great. The customer service…well, I’m not applying for CP anymore. Let’s put it that way.
I know all too well the practices of the pL creators/staff – Oom, Mallory, Colleen, Greg.. Sadly, the name/fame keeps taking major hits like this.

They never take blame in anything they get “caught” doing – and are always ready to strike with a “defense” or explanation WHY something happened.
I have personal experience with this crew from when the studio was still around – Digital Bella – and I am the photographer that worked with the “Faces of photoLife” finalists. That being said, I was paid, I was given the credit due for the final photographs *they are still being used*
I will say..I have trashed my pL, I have removed myself from ALL association with any of the involved parties – due to many “situations” that kept arising.
There are more issues than just this, where AR’s have been filed – sadly most get swept under the rug -

Im writing this in regards to the notecards I’ve received about private photographs being used used at the photoLIFE SLBD exhibit.
here is what happened.

1. Photographs were taken from the photoLIFE Filckr site and used at the pL SLBD exhibit wall.
2. Some photographers were not contacted and asked permission about their work being displayed at the SLBD exhibit.
3. The Exhibit Wall that contained work from several photographers was inadvertently set for sale as 1 item.
4. No exhibit walls were sold and the set for sale status of the wall was changed as soon as we were made aware of it.
5. Content in question was removed as soon as we were made aware the owner didnt approve.

Our policy has aways been to promote all of our photographers and, in our companies history, we have never had a complaint about using photographs on our flickr site to promote individual photographers or demonstrate photoLIFE’s capabilities. Our staff has always had a very protective role with regards of content of photographers in SL. Because we receive dozens of submissions about work from different pL users we incorrectly assumed all photographers would be happy with their work displayed at the pL exhibit.
There are several facts that I believe clear up the intent of use of the photography at our exhibit.
1. We have a lot of other photographers work displayed there as the photographers seem to view their work being displayed as promotion of their business not as some attempt to profit from selling the photography work of others. I believe the way the exhibit is displayed confirms that. The wall in question would easily be understood as a display and not a product typically sold in SL. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would purchase a display wall besides to promote the work of the photograpers or the photoLIFE studio.
2. We have never sold any other people’s photographs and have absolutely no plans to do so. Any prims that had photographic work of others included on it and “set for sale” was not done so intentionally. It was a wall that contained the work of many photographers on it , and no sales were generated from the wall being set “for sale”. Once we were made aware of the “set for sale” setting it was changed immediately. No financial gain was obtained by photography work being displayed at the pL exhibit.
3. The work in question was removed as soon as I became aware that it may have overstepped copyrights or the owners disapproval.
4. New policy is now in place for all work posted on our Flickr site that the work displayed may be used for photographer promotions and demonstrational purposes of how the photoLIFE studio performs. This new policy is in place based on 2 programs we currently have in place. One is our Cp exhibit program that displays 20 photos from the Flickr site. This program has been in place for weeks now and this new policy will continue to allow that program to operate without conflict.
Please accept this letter as a formal apology for any content being used without specific permission.
No financial harm was done towards anyone from these action and all steps have been made to correct the issue.

Well incase PL doesn’t really know what copyrights law is all about, Darkley if she chooses can easly sue them in rl since rl money goes throw sl, and L$ can be exchanged into rl.
I am not saying it should go to this extreem act but if they keep doing it over and over again to ppl around sl they should re read the copyright laws in their counrty.
We all come to sl to have fun, but doing the work we are doing is expressing our art as well and giving our heart into it and that should be respected.

The photoLIFE group was contacted and asked to submit full perm photographs to use at the pL exhibit. These photographs will be for display purposes only.
Within 5 minutes we received over 20 full perm high quailty photographs from our group. All photos on exhibit without permissions have all been replaced.

Wow, that was incredibly poorly handled. PL owner needs to educate their people, not just on copyright and common sense, but on manners, too.

Had anyone’s photo been put on a single prim and set for sale as a photo of itself then this whole issue would be different . That would be an obvious attempt to sell someone’s property. There are several points that make this situation different.
1. The difference here is the item set for sell was a wall over 10 meters long with 20 different photographs from different photographers. This is just not an item in big demand in SL.
2. You also may find it important that the individual who owned the item set for sale was only a pL associate. He is not part of the ownership of the pL brand. pL would not have benefited in anyway from this.
3. The individual who brought this to our attention stated that she did not believe there was any intent of malice with the actions that occured.
4. Greg Paslong as well as myself are considered to be world class photographers. I generally dont shoot because I stay busy with supporting of the pL product and other photographers. If Greg or I either one were going to sell a photograph, we would just take one of our own, not attempt to steal someone elses.

Our company has grown very fast. The pL staff as well as myself am constantly asked by individuals to review and display work. As surprising as it may sound, this issue has never been a problem before with displaying individuals work. We are offered a lot of work to display quite often as we have 2 galleries at the pL store.
As far as Darkley is concerned, I have met with her on 4 different occations for over 30 minutes each. I’ve had a pleasant relationship with her, but she feels that photoLIFE has never been able to offer the same customer service to those outside of the US. We’ve made strides to do so and have even had different translations offered , but during my conversations with Darkley it was clear that she has been very unhappy with our support program. I regret that the relationship couldn’t have been worked out better. I think she’s very talented but she’s expressed a very strong unapproval of the photoLIFE company for many months now.
While we have a lot to learn, we also have a reputation for one of the best customer support groups in SL . Almost every new user who needs a question answered can find a friendly face with Colleen, Greg, Vivien, Mallory , Shane or myself. My staff is very hardworking and loyal, and people I have compete faith in. That doesn’t come easy in SL.
As the CEO of Opium Fashion Agency, and made a decision to cancel a fashion show based on the designer being accused of content theft . A show that was later put on by a different agency. I abhor content theft.
My only request is that before anyone judges photoLIFE , they take a moment to hear the entire story. I think thats fair.

If you are the CEO you take responsibility for things done under your brand. Saying someone is just an affiliate is a cheap way to weasel out of something it is your duty to take responsibility for.

When the University of Kentucky Football team was found to be paying players in violation of NCAA rules – their defense was “well we didn’t BENEFIT from our cheating so we shouldn’t be punished.”
Didn’t fly with the NCAA and it doesn’t fly HERE. Just because PHOTOLIFE wouldn’t benefit from the “mistaken sale” of that wall doesn’t mean they aren’t responsible.
Bottom line, Photolife would have been better represented with a very BRIEF statement, oh something like this.
“You know what, you are right – we should’ve gotten permission to use everyone’s photos. And the prim marked for sale was an error on our part. We sincerely apologize.”
Concise statements of sincerity play better than writing novellas raving about your innocence and explaining over and over and over.

OomPoppaMowMow Snookums and Mallory Luke have been responsible for several previous dramas involving friends of mine, regarding various sims, broken promises, modelling agencies and general douchery, the lame way this whole debacle has been handled doesn’t surprise me one bit. How do you “accidentally” set anything for sale for 1k? I mean there is no default setting when you create a prim to set it for sale, so to say it was not intentional is just bullsh*t. As for using anyone’s work without their permission, you can’t assume they will feel honored, you have to actually ask, especially someone who you have admittedly had “issues” with in the past. FFS, get your world class photographer’s head out of your ass and try reading copyright laws and terms of use before you use anyone’s property, even if it is on your website. You can’t arbitrarily decide how to use something that doesn’t belong to you. Then, the way you have handled the fallout from this entire mess has been .. well bullshit, apologize and move the fuck on, and stop trying to justify your actions, it only makes you look worse. This incident has pissed off a lot of people, and you are only making it worse by being a dickhead about it. STFU.

OK Normally I would say nothing but I myself am ashamed to be associated with this group of people. Greg’s behavior is appalling and frankly, Oom should be reprimanding him for his lack of decorum when it comes to customer service. Greg should have apologized IMMEDIATELY, removed the picture and been done with it. But instead he gives her the “you should be honored, deal with it” line. Very bad makes the team look bad, he is a alumni status member and should set a higher example for the rest of the membership.
I’ve never seen Oom’s photographs but Greg’s are far from “world class”. They lack depth, they always appear flat and the times I have seen him try to make something more striking it always comes out looking rather newbish. My honest opinion… Greg is where he is because he is firmly implanted on Oom’s ass. I’ve seen very talented people passed up, degraded and outright ignored because they are different. I have seen people who are not in the US passed up or not given the service they deserve because for some reason the Certified program chooses mainly US photographers. There has to be a median here.
Darkley’s pictures were taken without permission. I do not think because we add ours to the flickr stream you should ever have the right to use them at your disposal without consent… I do not care if it is for promotion or not. I know for a fact if you took my pictures and used without permission I would be just as upset. And if I had received that response from Greg I would have pitched a larger tissy than the one you got from her.
You are right Oom, things have to change. Your higher-ups need to be held accountable for their actions more. He needs to apologize to Darkley, Publicly and in writing for the flagrant disrespect he showed her.

OK look it comes down to this, Greg had NO RIGHT to take anyone’s pictures off their flickr without their permission. I do not give a god damn if they are in your group or not. If you didnt hear it from them that you could use it then dont. I mean Greg put up a shitload of pics of him and his wife, then he can put some more (someone is really vain if you ask me). Should have given more time to get response from people or used multiple ones by a particular photographer. Taking things without permission is so not cool. And Greg, as far as I know you have never apologized to Darkley for being a douchebag, you may want to try that. I bet if you did people would stop thinking so bad.

OMG has anyone seen Cherie Parkers Notes with regards to this incident. Of course they’re going to have her come up and speak, Being that she was just promoted to COO when all she was with the agency was a CP . But that’s not what’s surprising. I guess Cherie Parker feels she owes it to them considering they’ve given her outside business from upcoming “models” who didn’t know who to turn to for photo……You’re probably wondering what’s the surprise? The surprise is that cherie would stiff them with astronomical prices on simple photos. some people tried to bring it to her attention whereas she would just reply..”Are you aware that im a CP and would never present a client with what they do not desire?” This person came back to cherie several times to get her pictures redone/altered/fixed and cherie never got back to her. Shame On You……
It’s sad to see something so blatantly mishandled.
A private “Oops, we screwed up, we’ll fix it” should have been the end of this. Instead, all the pL staff (some of whom I have dealt with in the past as advertising manager at the Metaverse Messenger) have made themselves look like jerks and assholes before the eyes of everyone who reads this.
I find it a little silly that people don’t know how to fix issues amicably, but it’s also not the first time I have seen people spew snot defending their own fuckups.

1. Despite what it may look like, Oom has been working to right things. And is cutting a lot of slack for the actions of Greg, Colleen and Mallory. Not to say he’s perfect…he ain’t. But he’s been a lot better then the rest of them (who have NOT publicly apologized). Oom…if you read this..that is the one thing that still remains. Those individuals need to apologlize. You can’t do it for them…it comes out like BS and that’s part of the reason why you’re still getting whipped for it. No lengthy explanation was needed either. It sounded more like an excuse then an explanation.
2. Greg is far worst that a douchebag. I’d use those world class photos of his…mmm…maybe to wipe the $#it of his face (seeing as how it’s so far up Oom’s @ss).
3. Cherie is full of it too. Her photos are good in comparison to many. But knowing a few tricks here and there on PS doesn’t make your pictures worth 1K….especially if you don’t go about fixing pictures when customers aren’t satisfied. (A nice computer with nice graphic cards is only half of it Cherie. I’d like to see what you can produce on an older comp with low settings…and turning that into beautiful art).
4. Some people on teamPhotoLIFE are plain moronic. Just read the comments in support of the new policy. If they PLACED the policy in the first place, there wouldn’t be an issue. And if you consider it an honor to have your photos displayed by thieves, coniving liars, and arrogant jerks; then that is your prerogative. You want to talk about honor…where was the honor in Greg’s actions? And you want to be associated with people like that? To which all I have to say is: “There’s something on your nose. It’s brown. …. I think it’s $#!t, you were kissing too far up the @ss again.”
