   I would not ever lend any money to anyone in SL unless I knew them in RL. I have lent money to a girlfriend in SL, but she’s a good friend RL, 3 days later she paid me back. She didn’t even ask me for the money, I offered it to her because she really wanted to buy a castle and was waiting til pay day.

    Something is not correct in her head, she has played games with me and my partner (at the time) back in 2007. Sad to see she is still around..and STILL at it.

    Dont lend money period. Not in RL or SL unless you do not want it back. Loaning of money to friends also results in ruined friendships.

    Pfft. L$5000 is less than US$20. This Brinks person needs to quit trying to fuck people over, but IMHO it’s a lost cause. To chase somebody for a YEAR over a $20 debt isn’t worth the time it takes. Sure, it’d be satisfying to finally get the L$5000 back, but to me it’s not worth the effort.

    So… As we all know my story. Dont lend money ever to “friends” and dont every give out your templates. The bottomline is you dont see someones true colours until you’re burned in this game. The only people I help in this game is Kimberly casanova, that’s because when I was a newb, she gave me everything she could give and is 100% true friend. Can’t trust anyone except the ones that have stuck around for years and years.

    I never “loan” money expecting to get it back. If the money is returned fine, if not fine also. But to hunt someone down for a year over $20 that’s crazy.

    It is good that now Brink is exposed as a scam artist. That will save another person from tracking her down for over a year over $20.

    I’m so tired of her. I’ve overheard her asking for tips on how to get free review copies of clothes from designers. It made me weary.

    I think it’s funny how some people get sucked into the same “gotta have big bucks and high fashion” mentality that we deal with in real life, to the point where they’re begging everyone for money and p*ssing people off. This may seem like a shocking concept to moochers like Brinks, but it IS possible to have fun in SL without spending much money, particularly with all the gridwide hunts and the generosity of so many designers today.

    Or hell, forget shopping — what about all the great art installations, music, goofing around in clubs or just hanging out and chatting with friends. Brinks, you should hit Inksters’ erotic poetry readings on Tuesday nights! Or how ’bout SLex! SLex is free! Get your SLex on!

    Pardon the pun, but there’s a wealth of great blog resources for people on a budget. I find it ironic that Brinks happens to be in a bloggers group that I’m in, yet apparently she can’t take the time to read the work of her fellow bloggers.

    There’s more to SL than spending lindens. If she can’t grasp that concept or afford otherwise, she needs to get the hell out.

    in a place where spending $1000L on a skin is a significant amount, $5000L is a big deal. taking money from multiple people with the intent of not returning it is unacceptable, no matter the amount, perhaps even more so for someone who routinely brags on her blog about how rich she is in RL.

    Lying and making up stories for sympathy? Check.
    Trying to resell store cards that were given for a review copy? Check.

    I have a policy in RL and SL. I never lend money that I’ll need or miss. In my circle of SL friends I’ve never asked for a loan but they’ve given me enough stuff (without me having to ask) that I don’t mind giving them 300-500L here or there to help them with a build.

    I don’t feel sorry for people who take advantage of other peoples kindness or habitual liars. She’s probably a piece of work in RL too.

    yes, there was a sl secret about her a few weeks back.

    i first encountered her at the blogger party where she announced that she owned more designer handbags in rl than she could count. in blogger chat she announced that she had fat packs from all the top designers in sl & handbags from every store (much of it in all caps). it was later that i found out that she only had all those fat packs because she begged the designers for review copies. and i heard this from friends that she begged money off of and never repaid.

    avoid this mess.

    Maybe that person didn’t know what she was like when Brinks borrowed the money? Looks to me like she was ignoring that person too when he/she was asking for the money back too, which is why it’s probably dragged on for over a year…

    All she had to do was mute that person and show herself as offline permanently if they’re on each other’s friends lists and boom, Brinks is unreachable.

    If I were that other person, I’d be livid and want the money back on principle, regardless of what the actual RL cost is. Sure, so it’s only L$20, but looking at it in that perspective, it’s a paltry sum, however when you look at it for it’s real worth in SL, which is where this is taking place, it’s worth L$5000. If you loaned someone US $5000, you’d damn well want it back.

    I am glad to see this post. A friend of mine, who is a designer, had Brinks ask her for a “loan”. She didn’t pay it back…shockingly. But then , she contacted my friend to say that she was going to be out of SL because she is pregnant, but she has these gift cards to Sugarcube. She said they were 500L gift cards but she was selling them to her “friends” for 400L each.

    My friend mentioned that Brinks had never paid her back. Which Brinks of course apologized all up and down, and had a million stories as to why she hadn’t paid my friend.

    She ended up giving my friend one of the gift cards, instead of paying her back. LOL

    This chick is a total piece of work and designers need to stop giving her review copies, and EVERYONE needs to stop lending her money.

    If I was a designer, I wouldn’t want her to blog my stuff anyway…she takes crap photos. Learn to use SL lighting, FFS.

    I am asking myself, why people with serious RL money problems have to “play” or live in Second Life?

    SL is expensive in my eyes, i spend 200 USD per month for it and some people i know much more. Others spent nothing since today.

    Yeah, I give presents to friends – or free stuff from my store – just because I love my friends. I would give money, not lend it. I think that monetary value can be replaced with kindess or favours – but I wouldn’t lend money off of a friend. I’d rather find a way to get the money myself, than ruin a friendship.

    I ask designers for things for the Magazines I send a notecard with what im doing, specifically, and give them a name so that they can check/verify that I am geniune, but I always ask for a specific item, and I ask for it to be trans so i can return it. Sometimes they generously give it no trans, or give me fatpacks, but I always say thank you, give them a copy of the finished picutre and a link to the magazine

    She contacted me several times for review copies from my store and – call me naive – i gave her items twice (and her fcking wishlists were long). I told her though that i dont like her attitude while she was demanding for free stuff and that she should work on her photos, because they are miserable.

    I felt pity for her, this is the only reason that i gave her any stuff, but i actually regret it now. She is really pissing me off and now reading this, i get even more pissed off.

    My b/f loaned loaned L$ to a damsel in distress two years ago – She gave excuses, then avoided him, then muted him, ran away months later. We created new alts, tracked the bitch down. Found her. Griefed her continuously, until she changed into an alt account, and deleted the one that borrowed the money. That adventure of tracking her down and so on was fun, I wouldn’t mind doing that again, however Mick isn’t loaning out anymore L$.

    Take collateral if you *must* loan out, if they don’t have anything you want — just say no. Really simple.

    Brinks approached me for a loan shortly after I met her. I didn’t have much cash on hand, but I gave her a small amount. She did not pay me back or talk to me about it again after that. When she approached me about something else yesterday, I reminded her, and she assured me she had forgotten. This morning, she paid me back.

    Up until this morning, I would have agreed that she was clearly only interested in taking advantage of people’s kindness and generosity. But she did pay me back. She claims she is paying back others that she has borrowed from as well.

    I think there is a place for Tenshi’s post, because if this behavior is habitual, other people need to know and be warned. I’m not swayed by the argument that it was “only $20″, because SL is a big world, and there are a lot of kind-hearted (you can say gullible if you want) people there. There’s a lot of money to be stolen, twenty dollars at a time. But by the same token, if this is a mistake and or a lapse in judgment, (however extreme)and she is trying to make amends, I think that needs to be shared too.

    On a more serious note, Brinks approached me offering to sell me 10 L500 gift cards to a store. It sounded fishy and I demurred. I e-mailed the conversation to the store owner. The store owner was hurt that the cards she GAVE for blog reviewing were being sold. She didn’t say that the cards were hacked. She has closed her store and closed her card system. I don’t know that the cards were hacked, just that they were being misused. She also said that she was pressured into giving the cards.

    I also im’ed Brinks and told her that I had let the store owner know and that I thought that selling them was wrong.

    It’s not a known fact that the cards were hacked, just speculation. We should stick to known facts, which are damning enough.

    Well my first ‘encounter’ with miss brinks was through notecards (of which i was literally flooded by). She claimed that her mother had recently passed away (while at the same time in her posts she seemed like a happy butterfly) and on these notecards she was politely asking me to blog about her mother’s heart disease and death and awareness of heart diseases because ‘her blog didn’t have as much readers’.
    I found myself, pushed against the wall, almost forced to blog about it but I didn’t give in. I didn’t blog it and I doubted she had a good intention behind it, no matter if the story is true or not.
    I doubt about it now aswell.
    I’m shocked about all of these facts but I cannot say it’s a surprise to me. It’s just a confirmation of my thoughts/doubts.

    I went to her page, and I can honestly say as the run-of-the-mill fashion blog/feed reader, she needs a total overhaul.

    -Everything in the pictures leads the eye to the backdrop.
    -Pictures are too small, and pose too far off to see any detail in the outfits.
    -If I did lighting like that in my photography 101 class, I’d get a lecture. If she just wanted to create a brighter image over all – a simple windlight setting would be key. In most of these pictures, it just looks like an over-blown facelamp that you see in Armidi in a night setting.
    -If you’re going to go with the white-back drop minimalism shin-dig, the black web page just makes the contrast super harsh.
    -I personally hate the individual pictures of random accessories, but thats just me, makes my feed scroll a tiny bit longer.

    TL;DR : Minimal settings can be done easily and look good. Take some of Tenshi’s work for example, and countless others.

    I actually feel guilty now that I demanded the money back, because now Brinks has taken this L$5000 gift card for Sugarcube, swapped it with the owner for 1x L$500 gift cards and has been trying to sell them to pay me back the L$5000 she ‘borrowed’ from me in June 2008.

    So now, because I asked for the money back (for the Xth time), an innocent store owner has closed her business temporarily. Makes me feel like shit and I’m an innocent party in all of this…

    Oh and as for the other friend who I helped out, I don’t want the money back, it was never meant as a loan… This is someone I’ve known in SL for a long time and is family to me, so I did what I had to do and helped her… I didn’t know Brinks well at the time when she asked me for the money to pay her tier etc. and so yes, I wanted it back.

    I really am genuinely sorry that my asking for it back has lead to all of this though, it was never my intention and I can understand if some of you out there think I was stupid or that I deserved this…

    I never meant for any of this to happen.

    I was there when she posted that, brutus, and it led to a whole discussion on whether or not you were rude. I thought it was kind of funny. Then she asked to see a limited edition purse I bought in SL 3 years ago, bragged about all the RL knockoff-looking purses she had in SL, and told me she blogged for the free stuff. I left. Later she asked me for 50L in IM.

    The next day, I noticed that she was the SLSecret #5, the beggar. I pointed it out in fashion bloggers so as to say be careful about anything you say because someone will repeat it. She actually thought I somehow outed her to the group when it was totally obvious who it was. She started to get pissy and I told her she didn’t want to do that. She backed down.

    As for Sayuri, she is the biggest sweetheart ever. I was given the wrong notecard of albero summer fair participants and she was on it. She contacted me to let me know she wasn’t participating, gave me a dress, told me she was a fan of my blog and machinima. I contacted her later after correcting it and she gave me a gift card!

    When I heard about the whole Brinks thing leading her to shut down her store, I chatted with her about it. I passed her back the gift card because I don’t want her thinking all bloggers are bad guys. Brinks is giving us a horrible rep!

    she said she is closing for A WHILE to fix permission errors.. Probably the permission error bug that is affecting alot of merchants.

    As for the gift card, I mentioned this in another post… People have been hacking systems, specifically the TMC system, and are selling copybotted cars. If brinks is selling it, shes not the only one… Theres a bunch of people going to shops and selling customers the cards. This is why most everyone who was on the tmc system is no longer using it or accepting the cards

     I agree on the issue of managing long chat logs in the blog. They do need breaking up into more readable chunks – simply to help keep your place while reading. Some options:
     a) Edit, including only the pith and putting the rest in a documents archive.
     b) Sub-headings such as “In which our feckless blogger borrows money.” and then a while later “In which our begging doyenne refuses to repay, ” etc.
     c) pictures

     just to give the eyes anchors so that we don’t read the same lines twice or more because we lose our place.

     I think that everyone who has been approached by this person should submit an AR – it’s against the TOS to beg or Panhandle which is clearly what was going on. Enough AR’s and you get suspended or banned.

I would never make something up like that, and as I said we both decided to just keep shut up about it because it’s common here and you can be what you want here. But to go further and make up all this other stuff, like being pregnant and whatnot, in order to get sympathy and money from others is just messed up. Therefore, I felt obligated to tell what info I had.

     Actually, having seen a copy of the SugarCube notice, the store was closed because of permissions issues on the clothing attachments and NOT because Brinks was selling the giftcards… The giftcards have been disabled because of that, but thats not why the store was closed, so I don’t feel guilty because of that any more…

     As for exposing her… Well, it’s funny but there were a couple of threads elsewhere moaning about what an absolute pain in the ass she is and thats kinda how I got talking to Tenshi about the issues I’d been having with her… I do sorta get the impression I’m the only one who’s asked for the money back and carried on pursuing her about it to the point of face to face confrontation, which if I’d not done, I’d still be the full L$5000 out of pocket and not only L$2000 out now…

     I really cannot wait to see what the outcome of all this new stuff is going to be. I reckon she’ll either deny it all and bury her head in the sand, as per usual, lashing out at us all in her blog, or, she’ll just disappear in a heartbeat. Blog goes, SL account goes and a new account is created and the charade starts again…

     I’m going to be away for a couple of days and back on Monday, so it’s going to be interesting catching up with all of this…

     I’m guessing that they chose a female avatar because people naturally feel more empathy towards a girl than a man, and seeing that most SL females are male in RL – most RL men would sooner help a RL woman (especially an attractive one) than a RL man.

     I have asked a close friend of mine for ls to pay my tier on a couple occasions when I didn’t want to purchase lindens.
     I always have paid back within a day or two.

     I also have given out lindens to friends, and always have been paid back..

     It’s just a matter of good faith in people..

     Sure, not everyone is trustful, but some are, and some DO need help at times..
