Gee, Phil, Nice Logo

lovemachinephilip

Philip Rosedale’s new company logo

Wonder where you got the idea?

mechanizedlifecodieCodebastard Redgrave’s MechanizedLIFE Logo

I’m sure this isn’t the first mechanical heart/cogs idea to ever appear, but seriously… what really gets me is the disjointed bottom of the heart, much like the <3 used in Codie’s logo.

Welcome to our Wall of Shame, Phil, old boy.

    WOWWWWWWWWWWW.

  2. wow, even the the letters are almost the same

  3. Rosedale's logo makes no sense whatsoever, at least Codebastard's logo has the context of ASCII art behind it.

  4. Both logos are derivative.

  5. Crap Mariner says:

Codie also invented the color red.
    And the cotton gin.
    (Not necessarily in that order.)

    -ls/cm

  6. Moneypenny says:

Seriously? when there is more blatant theft and derivative works going around….you post this?

  7. Fray Jigsaw says:

I had no idea Codebastard invented emoticons. Duly noted.

  8. Whispers says:

I agree with Moneypenny…wasn't there some big skin scandal over the last couple days that could be discussed? ^

  9. What I love best about Philip Rosedale's logo is the nicely placed red 'L' for Learner. Clearly Philip is proud to display his learner plate to all potential clients.

  10. Jake says:

So, Codebastard stole the ascii art heart from whoever first came up with that idea and you let him get off scottfree?

  11. Mel says:

Actually, none of them can claim to had the heart+love idea first, and both logos are distinct enough so that they cannot be mistaken for each other. so there is neither content theft, plagiarism, or copyright infringement anywhere in this logo.
Actually, i like Phil's logo a lot better than the other one.
'Nuff said, on to more important topics

  12. Creative one says:

Umm will there ever be a time where people can be creative the saying is great minds think alike and that emoticon is very well known .I am really just distubed over the witch hunt mentality on creativity I say do some research and read on copyright I see nothing wrong with the logo they have different concepts. But for the love of creativity chill out .TBH I never saw codereds logo thing untill this post.

  13. Baily says:

that stupid <3 symbol is so darn lame!

  14. Fray Jigsaw says:

Been a slow news week for Tenshi, she's just waiting for some new half-understood nugget of scandal to cross her desk so she can quickly put it out there for the feral dogs to leap upon. Funny how there's been no follow-up on the wildly successful Artist's Voice protest tho.

  15. SRS BSNSS says:

    I'm just a love machine
And I won't work for nobody but you,
    I'm just a love machine,
    A huggin', kissin' fiend.

  16. scd says:

I think, folks, a little context is what's going on here… but we all know context sucks, so let's not use it and just carry on.

  17. Girl Genius says:

But… c'mon… you can't let him get away with stealing PHIL FOGLIO's heart… I'mean… like seriously! Oo

  18. Jake says:

You left a few things out. The blogger didn't just post her opinion, she made an abusive and critical postings about someone saying they committed a crime they clearly didn't.

I understand you want to be the voice of reason so everyone can think well of you, but you glossed over the blogger's sin. What sin? Well, either bearing false witness, if she knew this wasn't a case infringement, or stupidity, if she thought this was a case of infringement.

  19. Girl Genius says:

My investigative comment was deleted! I think PHIL hacked this blog to blur the traces of his own guilt! Oo

We were so close to crack this case \o/

And leave Tenshi alone, folks! Her genius is unique, her courage to speak up is peerless and her keen mind is superior.

Now let’s go and buttkick heartless PHIL!

I’m afraid that I disabled Intense Debate this morning (it’s a WP plugin for comments) because it was lagging SCD hard and it seems to have nommed some comments :( :( :(

  20. Monolock says:

One of these posts that make it just inpossible to take this blog seriously.

  21. Aisuru Rieko says:

His logo would make more sense if it was smaller and incorporated into the words, in place of the V in love (though lovemachine for a business name is really stupid IMO). As for whether he ripped off Codie, I don’t think either idea is so groundbreaking that it sets a precedent to borrow from.

  22. Cat says:

    Mindshift logo uses cogs also.

About the love machine. It’s a system the Lindens use. Every time something good is done by a co-worker they send love to each other, it arrives as an email. After a few months the love gets tallied up and they get a few dollars extra on their pay depending on how much love they got.

May explain why theyre so happy-go-lucky when the grid is acting terribly. Not sure if this is where Phil is going with his new project but it’s interesting.

  23. Tiasha says:

    Marketing silly people

  24. Victoria Wheeler says:

What the hell is THAT? What the hell IS that? It’s supposed to be on its side, duh. And what is that bizniz, anyway? They haven’t figured that out either. I swear.

  25. getyafactsstraight says:

Lol….you really hit it off here didn’t you Tenshi???? I might be daft but you DO take the prize with this one. Keep it up, I find it rahter entertaining ^^ Here’s a challenge: make 10 articles like this in 2 months.

  26. Karl says:

The idea of using a cog logo has been around some time in various derivative forms. In the 1930′s the Nazi paramilitary organisation Technische Nothilfe (TeNo), or Technical Help, used a cog logo – although predictably it didn’t have a heart inside it. With a heart or with a swastika, them silly marketing folks are all the same…
