Where there is a will there is a way and I’d rather have someone bust their ass one way or another and steal a hair then to piss off people so they stop buying it or messing up a no copy hair, having to verify the transaction (pain in the ass) and resending it. It was more work in the long run to have the scripts.

No one is saying that they dont understand how much work goes into making hair. or any created thing for that matter…

whats super annoying is not everyone in sl have the same shape of head / body / neck etc. so when you create hair, it fits you PERFECT, it fits the models PERFECT, and on me and your average customer… it looks like trash that will usually end up in the trash should the person have the misfortune of buying it (like i have done a few times) as no mod no copy. It is SOOOO annoying buying hair and having the script too..because there are many different resize script.
This blog thing gets thousands if not more hits per day.. i imagine everyone who will read this blog will be like ‘yeah, no mod / no copy and resize scripts are annoying.’

ive been around since 2005, when copybotting was not a everyday thing..when you could rez your hair without it yelling at you in english french spanish and deutch all at once and edit it to where it would fit you perfectly.. yeah it was not flexi and your hair went through your neck most of the time when you moved….but the point is that back then you could drop your stuff without getting treated like a common criminal. WE are your average customer…and i agree with her… and a lot of people will agree with her…and maybe they’ll think twice before buying something of yours.. majika’s, DK’s or anyone elses with the bad business sense of no mod/ no copy ANNOYING resizer scripted hair..

and she’s right about one more thing… the script does nothing to deter copybotting. it just pisses off your loyal customers and loses you future / return business.

Usually, I need to move some prims around to make the hair fit, not just resize stuff. And I like to be able to tint my hair to achieve the exact color that I like.

Making hair no mod is just like when pc game designers put some crazy limitations on their CDs. It only makes it harder for people who actually buy the game….the pirates will find some way around anyway.

EVERYONE should make it a priority to never purchase no mod no copy hair. I don’t care if you like it. If content creators start getting away with those perms- more and more people will begin doing it as well.

What would work better is a bunch of people IMing the creator with a ” I really like the hair but I won’t be buying hair set to no mod no copy”

After a few of those, any unignorant designer with a brain would disown the new perm settings.

To me, making hair (or other wearable prims) no mod means I won’t be able to use it in the manner I like, which in turns means I won’t be giving the creator any more of my L$. It doesn’t put Copybotters off at all…they can copy something off a random av’s head, no matter what the perms are.

I do understand why content creators feel the need to be able to make their items no mod – I do this myself. Sure, there are ways around it, and if someone really wants to copybot something they will, but it just makes it that one step harder for them, and therefore will put off all but the most determined copybotters. That’s my personal reasoning anyway. Perhaps it’s flawed reasoning, but until I’m convinced otherwise I’ll continue. I do offer a free fitting service to all customers though.

I really, REALLY don’t get why all the hair creators are script crazy right now. I have one hair that actually lags the sim and my viewer when I put it on.

I’ve always thought that copying is inevitable. When I find out something of mine’s been copied, I rage for five minutes, put it full-perm in my freebie box and make something new.

Hosie & I are still around. For awhile we worked with the Electric Sheep Company doing some fab projects. Our sims are sadly neglected, perhaps at some point I can reinvent myself if i find some motivation.

But for now I mostly spend any time in SL doing custom things or working quietly on an alt or just buggering some friends.. Hosie is primarily living in RL but pops in now and then to cause some chaos.

I’d like to blame the plungers and penis garden on Hosie, but I’m sure i can be at fault for instigating it somehow lol.

btw the plungers look fantastic on the boobs too, give it a try.

Great rant Viv, I don’t have any talking hair, but I imagine it would be terribly annoying.

I haven’t had bad luck with resize scripts personally, unless I try and use them most times when my internet is crap and I am laggy and scripts are the last thing to respond.

That however is a personal issue that I have spent way too much time whining about, so I won’t mention it and sully your terriffic rant.

Just about every attempt to bypass copybotters doesn’t really do a thing. Every SL-savvy person I’ve ever spoken to about it has admitted that there is no real way to stop copy-botting, save filing a complaint about it with the Lindens. Nothing. The only thing the bots, scripts and insistence on making everything no-mod do is tick off your true customers.

Possibly the only way to put a stop to it would be to protest to the Lindens en masse to put more protective measures up. And while I know that has a snowball’s chance in hell, considering their past approach to (haha) “customer service”, it’s still more likely than finding a magical measure in-world that can stop copy-botting in its tracks.
