Vivi’s Fashion Finds and Accidents: Pixel Dolls

Today I continue my series of reviews of shops that have been around since the beginning of time and are still here and bring you Pixel Dolls (PD).  PD was one of the first stores I ever bought something from and once I discovered it I kept returning and did not stop until I’d purchased nearly everything in the store.  Even the men’s stuff.  That’s how much I love PixelDolls. One of the wonderful things about PD is that it just keeps getting better. Owned by Nephilaine Protagonist, (who is as lovely as she is sweet — seriously I want to hate this woman but I cannot because she is too nice and sweet.  Talent, beauty, poise, and personality all at 100% should not be allowed in one package!) , the shop has been around since 04 and maybe 03 (were there shops in 03?).  You know when you buy from Neph that you’ll get well made prims, hand drawn textures, the prims will fit, the textures will work and pretty much its going to look good.  Anyway like Nomine’s stuff, I have a ton of old stuff by Neph but I’m not going to show you that because it is old and outdated and you’ll just have to take my word for it that it was the height of fashion at its time.  However I have new stuff to show you.  This is her latest dress.

 

Neph is very adept at making dresses and I could have concentrated on just a few full outfits.  However,  where she really excels is at separates.  She has half a dozen or so of skirt types that she reuses pretty consistently.  Its ok because the new textures she puts on these styles are awesome.  But pretty much all her stuff is made to work together either as a full outfit or as separate pieces so you can create your own look.  I’ve demonstrated this by taking a royal buttload of pictures which will appear after the cut.

 

It was hard to do this feature because there’s just so much to choose from.  So I decided to concentrate on putting together different looks from the PixelDolls extensive collection of separates.  So everyone needs a black skirt and some of us need more than one.  PD has way more than one.  Today I’ve chosen two — the Elizabeth long skirt and the Everything short skirt.  This first look is western barroom Victorian kind of thing.  The gloves, and pretty much all the layers come with the corset.  You could make this more a proper Victorian thing by using the fully laced corset. Oh and did I mention you get a ton of layer options with pretty much everything you buy?  Well you do.

 

But take that same skirt and pair it with the Chess top for a completely different look.  And I’m really not doing a lot of work here.  Same skin, same skirt, etc, all I changed were the hair, jewelry and blouse.  I didn’t even change poses.  But maybe we wanted something both more modern and fancier than that?  Hey I can do that!  (The Chess top also comes with a Chess skirt if you wanted a full outfit — but the blouse is sold separately).

Wahla!  Change the hair, change the jewelry, buy a $L50 top and you are good to go with the fancy. Did I mention that PixelDolls is also ridiculously inexpensive?  Everything in the shop is somewhere around $50-250 lindens tops (single items around $L50 and full outfits can sometimes but not often run to $250).  And I think if you go right now she is having a 10L sale on a bunch of stuff she plans to retire, which, I believe includes some of the Stella de Rocca skinlines.  I think the shapes are also for sale and all modifiable.  You could walk into PD with $1K lindens and walk out with enough clothing and skins to allow you to change into something new each day for a month.  How cool is that?

 

Not sophisticated enough you say?  Another $L50 top and now the perfect look is achieved.  For extra added special fun go back and buy the fat pack of prim gloves (not pictured).   But wait – Its not a formal after all.  Its a burlesquey sexy party.  OK!

All I did here was switch out the top, shoes, and skirt.  But I’ve still got my PD folder open, I’m pulling from essentially the same place, and its easy to try on and discard without having to do a lot of searching.  A gal could do a lot worse than to have a folder full of PD separates. Anyway it turned out not to be a burlseque sexy party after all!  Its an 80s space oddity party.  Shit I wish these party planners would make up their damn minds. 

Damn I’m glad I have oogobs of boots and accessories in my inventory because it looks like our party planners have changed their minds once again.  Screw them, I’m gonna wear what I want!  Last pic.
