Leafy and Full of Love

I don’t usually post twice in one day, but we’re kicking off a little something I like to call Skin and Shape Week. This week SCD will be full of skins, shapes and how-to’s.

My first post is on Leafy, which specializes in shapes and poses. Normally, I can’t stand pre-packaged shapes. They always seem to fall into a cookie-cutter area to me. This is not the case with Leafy. Leafy’s shapes have character, personality and they’re oh-so versatile.  Take Yuki for example:

Yuki has one of the sweetest faces I’ve ever seen in SL. That’s generally the case with all of Leafy’s shapes. They have the faces of beautiful, mysterious women who you are immediately taken with.

I should tell you now that you’ll want to get your shapes with modify permissions. The bodies of the shapes, while very propotionate, are very short and petite. Also, making something your own is fun!

The Kinara shape above reminds me of Inara from Firefly (any Joss Whedon fans in the house?) The face is round with wide, soft lips and slightly tilted eyes. I wanted to take the shape in a bit of a different direction than what was pictured in the ad, so I changed up the skin and hair that was shown on the included notecard. That’s another great thing about Leafy: all the shapes come with a notecard that tell you where to get everything pictured in the shape’s ad as well as landmarks to the locations.

Leia is a shape designed for a black or dark-skinned avatar, but I wanted to show you that it would work with a paler skin, too. I adore the eyes on this shape, they seem so dreamy and kind.

Fiona is one of the few Asian shapes I’ve seen that I feel actually looks Asian. I love her pouty lips and adorable nose! Really, how many cute noses have you seen in-world? I wanted to make the shape look funky and cool, but she’s beautiful as the girl-next-door type, too.

Leafy is one of my favorite places in SL now, not just because of the shapes, but because of the atmosphere of the store and the land that’s it’s on. Owner Kaethe Dyrssen has done an amazing job with her space. I go there just to hang out and relax.

You should also check out Kaethe’s Flickr stream as she takes some amazing pictures using her shapes.

Leafy is having it’s grand opening of a brand-spanking-new mainstore today and has lots of sales and new shapes out. Check it out at:  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nebula/230/231/22

when i first came to sl i just assumed everyone made their own shape, so i made my own – i settled on my face really early but i stillmake mods to my actual body. i think i have around 20 different versions (short, tall, system skirt, normal). later. i learned many buy their shapes. some people have a great knack for creating shapes, and others need help. thank you iris for blogging about shapes! i’m sure the shape makers would appreciate the attention!
