Ummm… Number 11, what’s a Jordan?
WOOOOOTTTT
every week these get better
i kinda really want to know what it says under the block
and i donated my hair to locks of love… twice
And Lauren, they probably threw your hair away too.
The fact that the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/06/fashion/06locks.html) and the PRESIDENT of Charity Navigator, who is the biggest charity evaluator (http://www.trentstampstake.org/2007/09/hair-raising-charity-news.html) take issue with their practices is enough for me. I don’t trust Locks of Love and will never give them my money or hair.
#1 The fashion community should ban together and use a sim as a fashionable help island of sorts, with all the information that could really start people off a lot better then whats available.
My case in point, tp into the GossipGirl site I think its in Warner Bros, or some shit. Wear the most amazing items you own. Watch how fast you get mauled.
There are ways we can promote, but at what risk? You tweak the default av so far that people settle for that cause they are cheap bastards, you hand out amazing shit and they don’t need to shop. But Personally I think if you get them while hungry and throw them something good they will want more. What ever happened to Fashion Avenue? It’s still there, hardly anyone goes after the CSI hype. Something like that with more freebies like nice shoes, some skins, and shapes, some hairs, and ao’s as nice as Imperial Elegance’s free ones would be killer. AND Let’s NOT forget the men!
Throw in some boxes that give out NC’s for noobs, and lists like the ones Tillie Ariantho has compiled to stores. Plus NC’s on fashion blogs, feeds, etc and where to go for more fashion info, like Second Style HQ which has a damn calendar FFS outside. Do you know what its like to relog to Rhubarb to load your inventory, and someone from a neighboring sim comes over to see if you are ok, and when you tell them what you are doing and they find out how much you have in inventory, and WHY its so important to not lose it, they are perplexed cause clothes are cheap and or free?
Why not give them huds with all the info and they can immediately start on their skills and TP around to the various places it tells them to get their ‘starter items’, all while promoting stores similar to what Honey does with her FC HUD, and have it contain all the info they need from disabling idle time out (yes people still wear shit like that), to editing prim hair.
Seriously think outside the torus.
#8 cheap hooker is subjective.
#9 should get a second opinion, or third or fourth. & Who gives a shit if it resemble another..if its uniquely created they can go kiss your prim ass, there are stores I think do work at the same skill level, same styles of fashion, etc WTF did they mean by that when they said that.
8 is pure nasty – and right to hide statment from Locks of Love
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
read the website http://www.locksoflove.org/
maybe if u knew a person that was help by this you wouldnt be do dam nasty
Parryna, Jordan is not a thing but a person, that is Katie Price aka Jordan.
She’s some UK “model”…. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_(Katie_Price)
@Parryna: Jordan is a British glamour model who started off doing nude or semi-nude shoots for men’s magazines but is now a successful businesswoman and mother of three, making money off reality TV, ghostwritten books, and assorted pink-coloured tat.
I think #11 is mostly seeking to emulate her silicon boobs, though.
Oh right, to be honest I think #13 and #7 would be much better ‘glamor models’ than 11 who looks kinda trashy
Jordan is a glamor model from the UK (this means shes posed topless most often in tabloid mags such as the sun e.g page 3 girl)
Shes one of those people that are famous for not really anything, but i have to say credit to her shes by far the most successful at it. Shes clearly smart have made millions from it.
She now a mum and has one son who’s disabled i think when shes not being Jorden shes a very good role model actually. I just think is sad that girls think by getting there boobs out it’ll make them famous.
It worked more so when it was a novel idea but the worlds realizing that ever second person has them…..
Oh yeah, and what with all the Seven hate? if you don’t like it… don’t go?
It is fun but i know a lot of other clubs in SL that are up there.
Its like anything, they people who you spend the time with are what matters
Oh! and Final Note:
I did a bit of research into LoL to mixed review. I even read there better businesses report
http://charityreports.bbb.org/public/Report.aspx?CharityID=1839
I think whats seems to be apparent its that a lot of hair is thrown away not b/e of waste but because it isn’t usable. Also alot of people seem to think that’s its for children with cancer not aliopeicha.
I think like anything maybe do research into charity’s and find whats right for you. I personally don’t see anything wrong with LoL except that they possibly don’t use there resources to the best advantage by not informing people more before they donate hair.
And in ragrads to making people but the wigs, I’m still unsure on that, i understand that its not free to produce these items but $1000 a wig is a lot surely the same as going to a wig maker yourself?
Iv actually been considering donating my hair for a while (I’ve got a good 30inchs) As I’m in the UK i most likely would have my hair cut and pay for it to be made into a wig and then donate to a hospital (which seems an option a few people have taking)
#9 check your offlines
I totally agree with #1 but I also think that the 5% who do are usually your most aggressive buyers. We’re that 5% with 30k+ inventory, hundreds of hairs, bulging clothing folders, etc. The 95%, while great to reach in whatever way possible, are usually a more casual, sporadic, frugal shopper. I guess what I’m trying to say is that even if it’s only 5% you are reaching through blogs and feeds, that 5% can fully support a business on their own – and well, at that.
#1 I totally agree. Its the same peopel who comment the blogs and there are not alot of lurkers like the blog owners/commenters like to pretend their are.
Most people i strike conversations up with in SL have no clue there is a second life official forum let alone fashion blogs!
#2 OUCH! That is probably the best secret posted yet. Wow..
#5 completely patheitc! Lards sitting on their RL computer chair manipulating well-dressed avatars. Youre scared of them? Go get some fresh air.
Wow i just had the worst spelling errors ever.
People*there*pathetic
1. Shoppers who spend the most money are watching the blogs.
3. Maybe you should spend less time on SL and focus on your family. The “Lindens” could pull the plug tomorrow but you’ll always have the connection with your child, please keep it a healthy one.
5.Paying to get into a club is what bothers me I could care less who is in there. But if people don’t have a problem paying then that’s their thing. Don’t take SL personalities so seriously it’s not the end of the world.
6. Are you seriously comparing a college education to a club in SL? o.0 This is madness.
8. Are you working on your own charity? If locks of love is helping 5 people they’re doing more than you are. If have a better option please let us know.
9. Girl fock em. Do your thing.
what I dnt understand ıs why they let a club onto the feeds.
sorry i mean unless u can wear the club!
but then again they are takıng photos of very fashionable people <.<
In regards to post #6 (I only now read it i skipped over it the first time).
Um secret posters..isnt this supposed to be about posting secrets?! #6 is a personal attack!
Why was it allowed to be posted?
@Whimsey, what is Rhubarb?
You pay to get into Seven, because there are no tip-jars, thus, the club doesn’t get a cut of the tips. You pay to help cover salaries and tier, not to schmooze with those people who get the concept.
#6 seems to me to be a direct reply back to one of the secrets last week. Seems totally relevant to me, and a breath of fresh air, actually.
#1 is funneh, and while it may be true, most of the people I know with the biggest inventories and the widest selection of things from a wide variety of stores, are all bloggers. If you’re not getting blogged, then approach a blogger and ask them why they don’t blog your stuff. Honest, constructive feedback may be what you need, unless you’re not known at all, and then you just need to let them know you’re alive
#5 is silly but I can totally relate at the same time. I’m totally antisocial and shy sometimes, and sometimes I feel out of place everywhere, but if you relax and just try to have fun, you’ll feel better for trying. And you can always talk to me cuz I am a huge dork.
@ Phoenix. It is, I just didn’t see how it was a secret…
I wonder who #4 is..
Candace,
The New York Times and Charity Navigator ED did not criticize Locks of Love’s use of the funds it receives. In fact, if you actually go to Charity Navigator [ http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=9285 ] instead of to the link you provide, you see that Locks of Love is highly rated in comparison to organizations offering similar services. Additionally, GuideStar has more specific information and you can download their IRS reports. [ http://www.guidestar.org/pqShowGsReport.do?npoId=579069 where you can see that these wigs are custom made and take months to construct.
The criticism of Locks of Love has nothing to do with how well they provide services or how they spend the money. They do very well and are highly rated. The criticism is only focused on the use of donated hair. Most donated hair is not usable – so you might ask why they ask for people to donate – because it’s great marketing.
If you cut off your hair for some group, believe me, you will pay attention to them and keep supporting them. If you just give a check, they may be forgotten in a month. Donor identification with an organization is important. It’s brilliant marketing and sure increases its overall revenue 10-fold. People are seen with their hair cut short, asked about it and they tell the store of Locks of Love and word of mouth is the best branding strategy there is.
They provide a useful service – making custom wigs that are made to order for the children. I suggest you take your own advice and do some real research instead of just skimming the surface. So you don’t like their marketing campaign, fine. Don’t give to them, but don’t act like they are a bad charity that misuses people’s funds.
@Kalia
You don’t need tip jars to get tips. Another poster not sure if it was in this thread or another mentioned that tips are mentioned in the club but maybe not as often as most clubs. I hope those who pay to get in get what they’re looking. If the workers are being paid salary and the tip mentions are just an after thought then that’s great. I’ve always made a point of tipping the staff and donating to clubs that I plan on spending time at. I’d hate to pay ahead of time, get in and the club is crap.
So, I downloaded the Locks of Love Form 990 which is their report to the IRS on revenues and expenditures. None of the board members receive any compensation at all. The Executive Director is paid $50,000/year which is quite low for an organization of this size and visibility. Probably because the donating hair gimmick is so effective, their cost of fundraising is just over 1/2 of one percent, the lowest I have ever seen for a charity. Their combination of administrative and fundraising costs are just 10% which is again, remarkable, so no wonder they are so highly rated by Charity Navigator.
uhm… boo hiss that you ran out of bandwidth? go flickr and go pro! hehe
That, and Photobucket also has a pro options as well, if I recall correctly. First time I seen this site get downed by bandwidth reasons, to be honest.
I paid the linden(s) to get into this mockery of the great RL California club and really, don’t waste your linden. There are far better places to visit for FREE.
The place is a pretty nice build but it was full of half dressed goth guys and steam punk nekos. Apparently their so-called dress code didn’t apply the day I visited…and I hate the fact that there’s a hanging noob in the club. This leads me to believe that they forgot they once rezzed inworld looking that bad! Or are they so elite they magically appeared in Armidi clothes and RedGrave skin? I guess they forget that the noobs they are so shamelessly mocking are the future of a place that most of us enjoy spending our free time.
@Stella – that is absolutely not true. I have never ever once seen tips asked for. Sure, some people do tip some of the staff, but it’s never asked for.
redgrave skins are TERRIBLE.
Seven is neither better or worse than any other club, just a lil different and heavy on the marketing. No big deal.
The noob is not hanging he is just afk and missing the party.
Cannot see the images.
@ Phoenix I don’t personally know that to be true or not just something I read from another poster. I’d like to see it for myself but I spend all my lindens on clothes and rent.
Blahblah….why do you think they are terrible? Just intersted
I do love mine.
All clubs I’ve seen so far in SL are either empty or obnoxious. I can understand that Seven charge admission to provide a better experience. But it’s clearly marketed as something posh and elitist, and obviously some people have an issue with that.
I’m not into posh clubs, but I would really like some nice, scruffy drinking hole to adopt the idea
@Kylie
Rhubarb is a empty sim, meaning its a sim with no prims, and a great place and a popular one to relog to when SL is being a pain, or you are having inventory issues.
Ummm… Iris…
Am I the only one seeing “Upgrade to Photobucket Pro Today” pictures instead of the postcards?
I’ll admit – I went to 7 Ultra purely to support a friend of mine. I expected to hate it – but I honestly loved it. Gesture spam and shrieking poledancers are what keeps me out of all the other SL clubs. It was a classy build with great music. And I’m going back. But I wonder if I was one of the “half dressed goth guys” referred to by “Who Really Cares.”
This is a totally unpaid unsolicted opinion. I’m just one of those people who can admit when they are wrong.
One of those secrets has me scratching my head too – not mentioning which one.
im seeing it to Sansarya thought ther was something wrong with my pc there
I am seeing the “upgrade” too. I want to see the pictures!! LOL
Isn’t Seven based on a rl club? When I google “Seven Ultra Lounge” it shows a real club.
I havent been to the one in Sl.. or the one in rl for that matter…lol.
I honestly don’t see what’s so terrible about paying a cover charge to go to an SL club. I haven’t been to this Seven club, but the more I hear people complain about it, the more I want to go. In my younger days in the real world, I had no problem paying up to a $30 cover to go to a dance club with expensive drinks. Since the crowd was guaranteed to be dressed nicely and be relatively well behaved, I had no problem forking over my hard earned cash to be among the pretty people. I don’t think anyone in SL is wrong if they feel the same way. And I don’t think it’s wrong if a club wants to make money without having to hire strippers or escorts to make money for them.
Yeah I don’t see any problem with a club having a cover charge either, SL was built with it in mind (event listings have an option to list a cover charge, land access set up to charge a fee for visiting.) I’m only surprised more haven’t done it, or that it didn’t happen sooner. SL clubs don’t make money according to a friend of mine, unless they rent out attached mall space and use the club as a traffic attractor.
I think people’s issue is with the elitist marketing of Seven. In combination with the cover charge, VIP pass price, and related fashionista blog (which I do agree doesn’t seem to belong per se on the fashionplanet feed) it probably makes people feel the regular patrons/organizers consider themselves “above” other clubs or other clubgoers. But how is that different from how RL clubs market themselves? You pay more to go to a 25+ martini lounge with world class DJs, in RL, than you do to go out drinking at a pub with a jukebox. Both are fun in different ways. The martini lounge will market itself as a venue for sleek people in cocktail dresses who hire limos. The pub will market itself as a good time with beer specials and pay per view sports on TV. If you’re not Seven’s target market, the sleek cocktail-dress-wearing crowd… don’t go. Being offended by its marketing is silly. Hang out at a different venue instead.
I recognize a few of the “elitist” names who visit Seven and they’re not intimidating, mean, or snobby at ALL. Being scared of them is just silly.
*shakes fist* Curse you SLCC!!! I was drunk and on a plane all day and now I can’t see the secrets.
Thanks for responding “B” and thanks for moving them Iris and Ten. It’s totally sad, but the SL Postsecrets is my favorite part of Sundays
It’s now 8:20pm EST. Where are they?
Ok, it’s all back up and running smoothly. I think they’re even in the right order! Thanks for moving stuff and walking my dumb ass through it, Kess!
lol you are hardly dumb- if it weren’t for you I’d still be struggling with a couple things!!
I was just anxious to see the secrets!
<3
Thanks for saving our tush, Kess! <3
I don’t know why some people are so mad @ the concept of the 7 Lounge. I think is a great idea, wish I had it first. The place looks cool and if there’s a public for it -people that don’t have a problem paying the fee- all the better.
As for the bashing of “celebrities” that frequent the lounge, c’mon you guys, we’re all a bunch of people sitting behind a computer, wearing pj’s and underwear.
Everybody is approachable, if you leave your own insecurities at the door.
I don’t think “7 lounge” is a bad thing.
Because their house rules assert, that DJ Kromus and DJ Azu will never ever play there! And that’s worth 5K a month and even more.
Have you ever been on a DJ Kromus party?
The fans of DJ Kromus and companies produce more gesture and noise spam than a million newbies could ever produce in their first year in second life plus a DJ that sounds like a soggy frie on speed.
@3: It’s a good thing you don’t tell your SL partner you wish your real life baby is his because i’m sure he is a lot saner than you are, and would recognize you for the sociopath that you are, and leave you.
“As for the bashing of “celebrities†that frequent the lounge, c’mon you guys, we’re all a bunch of people sitting behind a computer, wearing pj’s and underwear.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m in a Dior ballgown and patent black Loboutins. And a stylist did my hair this morning.
Pfft. As if. My pajamas have a reindeer pattern on them. Wearing Xmas lights in their antlers. Let’s see you take me seriously nowwww.
@Morph – DJ Azu has played there, and afaik he requested gestures to be allowed, but he was turned down. (I dunno personally, I wasn’t there)
@ Phoenix
All thumbs up if DJ Azu was turned down. I think that’s worth another 5K donation for better DJs which definatly are out there and who love the music and not their own voice.
Did you ever experience Azu and Kromus “DJing” a party? Its spam hell.
And its not only the spam hell. They also destroy EVERY song with blathering all their vaporing blah blah blah. Yea that’s right.
If someone who knows the House Rules and that one point of it is that gestures are not allowed would ask me to allow gestures because he means to be THE DJ I would kick his soggy ass out of my club.
Oh, don’t they sound like they make desperate efforts not to pass gass while “DJing”?
I paid to get into Seven and it’s true what they say about pretty people being incredibly boring. I’ll deal with gesture spam if this is what an “orderly” club is like.
They’re not pretty people! Well, not necessarily.
Though, I suppose you could point to the fact that in an environment where you can ‘be’ anything, they all choose to replicate whatever they see as beautiful in the plain old real world. Suggests a distinct lack of imagination in my view, so maybe Ann has a point!
I’ve never even heard about this 7 thing until this blog. looks like a place for egotistical bastards with a stick up their ass to hang out and mock passer-byers in private I.M: “OMG look at her! Pathetic” “ZOMG!!! we are SOO much better looking than he is!!” all while hanging in groups of their closest SL friends, not mingling outside of their clique. not my cup of tea! How are you supposed to meet people that way? Am I wrong in my perception of this “club”?
blahblahblahwhatever:
Considering you’ve never been to Seven, you’ve certainly overanalyzed what it *might* be like.
I typically wouldn’t claim someone’s perception to be wrong, but my experience differs greatly from the one you’ve described above. That being said, the only thing that would convince you otherwise would be for you to experience it for yourself.
I guess the thing I find so amusing about all of this conjecture is that you (you encompasses many people that have responded negatively) feel that Seven is about mocking people, egos, judgment, and self-professed elitism. Yet here you sit emulating those very things in a public forum, conveniently shrouded by a pseudonym no less. If your perception of Seven is correct (I obviously have an opposing perception) you shouldn’t be disuaded at all as you would fit right in.
I feel bad for #9, mainly because I know exactly how she feels. I’ve pretty much given up on the idea of having a store in SL. I don’t own fancy photoshop programs, nor have ever used them. I don’t know how to make sculpties etc. I’m not interested in making clothes or skins but furniture and prim items. I’ve been wanting to create and sell things for over 3 yrs now and haven’t because of fear that someone sometime will start a rampage because my coffee table looks similar to one they made.
I have no intentions of outright copying anyone but seriously how many different coffee table styles can there be? How many 1 prim rugs with a texture slapped on them? How many pairs of jeans or white tank tops do we see in SL that all look the same? How many black pairs of buckled boots do we see in SL? How about legwarmers? Why do some people think it is so rare that 2 or more people could possibly have the same ideas of creation?
I have been to many places and seen something for sale that I had been thinking of making myself. What if I had a store and had made that similar item? Would I be called out as a copier scammer? I think some people need to get over themselves and realize that not everyone is out to ‘get them’ or copy them because it’s giving people like Post Secret #9 and others like me who would love to just see if people would buy their items that they took care to create.
‘egotistical bastards with a stick up their ass’ sounds like my kinda place.
I’m still wondering what secret #7 refers to…… her skin? i don’t get it, any guess? I think she looks cute.
Yawns @ Dahlia
Careful with that yawn, “blah”. If you leave your mouth open long enough you’re bound to end up with your foot in it.
#12 is a lovely image and a perfect example of a postcard (save the spelling error, teehee!). And I have so much empathy for her/him
I’ve tried to upload so many times, and my filesize is way smaller than the 1.5mb, but it fails. Is there any other way to submit?
@anon: Have you tried all the tech support tips on the Upload page? If those don’t work for you, email it to me and I’ll upload it for you (irisseale(at)gmail(dot)com).
emailed, thank you.
thanks for the laugh Alaska. I would probably quit SL if they introduced webcams with the voice, lol. I bet you get more friends in reindeer patterned PJs than you would in a Dior ballgown too!

I would like to point out that this statement is not totally true. ALOT of people I know have huge inventories and don’t blog a thing. Some people just like to shop, me included. You may not know of us, but it doesn’t mean we don’t exist.
#13 could’ve been written by me. It wasn’t, but I’m also a curvy av and at 100 on the height meter to boot. I see my curves as a bonus for period wear; a bustle gown on me HAS a bustle, thank you very much.
I’m also a 30K+ inventory carrier and tried to blog but still can’t seem to keep it up. My bad. Maybe I can now that my whirlwind SL romances have either bit the dust or been suspended due to a criticial case of RL on the other party’s part.
On that topic, #4 is evincing part of what I see as the problem with how people take SL romances. “I can’t go back; it’s keeping me too close to the one I lost!” The answer is, change to a new set of sims. Change avs and do the same. But if SL became nothing to you but a means of connecting to this one person, you played it wrong. I speak as someone who came damn close to taking things too seriously herself in that arena but pulled back from the brink.
And the issue of “too much like someone else” is both what’s holding me back from launching a business and making me want to. I can’t possibly ape what someone else is doing that perfectly. I’m not them. I just have to buck up and DO.
