*agrees with number 7*
Number 4, whoever you are, I love you.
I have an idea for #3, why not just put kiosks out and about in-world for people to donate directly without any transactional reward other than the joy of giving to a good cause. No clothes, no fair, just a freely given donation.
What’s that? People need an incentive to give? Why? I mean if designers are not only supposed to create items for charity and give 100% of the proceeds, but they also have to help pay the tier for the sim rental? But if they have an incentive and might make some money on it, that’s bad, that’s venal? #3, to be morally consistent should just delete every RFL item she bought since incentives are bad in her book.
I do wish designers had limited their non-charitable products to 5-10 newest releases or something, but those people who think they should shell out money for a booth, design an exclusive outfit AND sell nothing else are unfair. After all, for most people the only reason they are giving at all is in exchange for clothes. I mean, how many just gave and would have given THE SAME AMOUNT without any clothing bribes to get them to give?
That’s really a big pile of do as I say, not as I do.
I really lol’ed out loud at the picture with no 7. Good one! Also agree with the point. I do wish in general that the peer pressure for freebies in general wasn’t that high. Sometimes it gets seriously exhausting.
With RFL, I can only say I wish I had more energy before it started. I really did want to make way more then I did but yeah. Better luck next year heh
And number 1 – I don’t use voice but I love tourists for example. I love to see different people on town and listen to them talk in languages I don’t understand. For me that is the beauty of the world in some ways. So the point is I understand.
I agree with Casja. I’ve seen a lot of bad mouthing of the Clothing Fair. You know, I like clothing fairs of any sort, and I would go to see new designers even if there was no charity involved.
And I would donate money to ACS…but not all of my money. ‘Cause I LIKE SHOPPING. So if I can shop and donate money at the same time, that’s a win.
Gee, what if we all donated all our money to charity? Then all of the designers would be out of business. Wouldn’t that be great?
Wouldn’t it be great if our governments properly supported medical research, so we didn’t have to have charities? Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had a million dollars so that the designers who support themselves with what they sell in SL could give away everything for free? But we don’t live in that world. Personally, I see nothing wrong with the RFL Clothing Fair. Maybe next year, there could be an area with all of the RFL vendors for those who just want to buy from them. Me, I’ll still walk around and look at the designers’ booths because I think it’s fun.
#3 – There are many donation kiosks around SL where you can just donate. It’s nice the designers are willing to give up some sales for charity when so many of them make their RL money in SL. I thank all the designers participating for doing that. However, it would also be nice if at the Clothing Fair, we weren’t subjected to their ENTIRE line of products AND decorations AND models AND greeters. Save that for your mainstore.
#5 – Sometimes letting go of someone, friend or lover, to find your true happiness is the hardest thing you can do. I applaud you.
#7 – I SO AGREE. I don’t know when or why hunts became so popular, but stop it already! If you want to give a free gift, give it. If you don’t, then don’t. Having 10 gridwide hunts a month is getting ridiculous.
@ 3- I personally don’t see the Clothing Fair (or any other type of fair) as a specific charity event. I see it as more of a craft fair/flea market, and oh since we’re all here let’s collect some money for charity. When you look at it from that perspective the fair makes a lot of sense.
@ 4- Ha! And is it just me, or do only blingtards wear those shoes?
@7- Agreed. Like I said back in December or so, ENOUGH WITH THE HUNTS ALREADY.
#4 is the greatest pic ever!
#3 – I totally Agree with Casja.
I wish more people were concerned about LL doing money from the charities! They get the tier (even at a “discount”, I would prefer the donation from teh designers went to ACS and not in LL pockets), they make money with the change fees when it comes to convert all the generous donations and proceeds to real bucks. I know I told that already in a comment here, but it RELLY bugs the hel out of me…
#7: the hunts wont stop because they re the new way to game the “search: place” ranking based on traffic. After the camping, beside the bots, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the hunts! Real avatars roaming around at your place to get a crappy freebie, plus if you are vicious enough to hide it well, they will roam around for a loong time. No campers to “Pay”, no bot floats to rent or bot software to buy. Well, sounds like a good deal when you have nothing valuable to sell and need to appear higher in the search, no?
3. Wow, a stray comment from the “Down at the Clothing Fair!” post, delivered via image file. ZZzzzz.
4. LOL! Funny pic.
I agree with #7
I am grateful for the hard work put into making hunts for us BUT I’m tired of looking for them.
We get no break. I wish I had the time to truly appreciate the gifts before another hunt / freebie is given out.
I think freebies should be given out sporadically so it has a value again.
I get so many freebies I never get a chance to buy stuff.
My inventory is overflowing with awesome free stuff and not enough time to wear/use them.
@Ben,
When there are big, gridwide hunts, sales drop flat. No one has time to shop. So here’s how I see it: if you can’t beat them, join them.
I see the hunt items themselves as advertising. My friends tell me that if they get a good freebie, they will return to check out the shop. They take crap freebies as indicative of the quality of the merch in general.
If I have to hide something, I put it someplace obvious. I hate hunting for hours. It builds frustration and badwill. Hunts should be fun.
Traffic is, IMHO, probably the worst way ever to get publicity for a store. Smart shoppers know that it means nothing. It’s easier and less time consuming to just pay for a classified ad. Doing fairs and fashion shows is fun and rewarding. Even lucky chairs are better because, again, you’re giving out free samples. Having bots stand around all day is not just silly – it increases lag, making your customer’s shopping experience much the worse.
some of these hunts are set up to build up a person ego NOT to help anyone, create fun, support stores – which is a sad reason to do it.
her greatest love is herself and will walk on anyone she needs to prove it
@4
Demand a refund for what 7k or w.e the dammed things cost i would. If your not happy complain.
and yus for 7k me and appy decided we should get a whole stuck on girl with our shoes
If you don’t like hunts, don’t participate. No one’s forcing you to do so. I don’t have much money -neither in RL nor in SL- and hunts are a nice way to get some new pieces without stretching my meagre budget. I delete what I don’t like, and there have been cases where fsomething I found on a hunt actually built a first awareness of some business in me.
And no, I don’t “demand” freebies, but I certainly appreciate the nice gesture when a designer decides to give something away.
#1: *hugs* I feel the same. It’s so amazing to see various cultures in SL. My store is still small and I felt all warm inside when I noticed people speaking japanese and german in it. I only wish I could speak all languages so I could talk to them honoring their own cultures!
#2: teenagers can be so creative. Please, dear teens, don’t ruin the names of your own. Go create stuff, don’t lower yourselves to the same level of some lowly adults!
#3: wait, let me get this straight: you’re complaining about charity? Would you rather they didn’t give anything at all to charity? Or perhaps you’d like them to give it all, so they would eventually go broke and NEED that charity? OMFG.
#4: I don’t know if I got this straight, but… if you like them, who are others to think otherwise. Let them laugh about you, you only have to please yourself.
#5: sometimes we feel bad about the other person, but if said person didn’t make you happy, your unhappiness combined with you hiding that truth would make the person miserable. Sometimes, things that hurt are for the best in the long run…
#6: I’m with you! In those parties, there’s hardly ever a person who isn’t terribly shallow, and usually the ones who look lonely are the most interesting of all. I have many many friends who are terrible at socializing, and they are amazing people.
#7: the only “hunt” I like is CSR. It’s fun because they make you visit several stores which you may not have known before, but the place to stamp your card is right there near to where you teleported to. This way it doesn’t get boring and troublesome, and you get to see new things you didn’t know, instead of looking in spiderweb-abandoned little spots in a store you already knew.
Oh #4 you made my day with that picture!
I was never happier than when all the St. Patricks’ Days Hunts Ended… if I had to see one more ugly green dress or skin with lime green eye shadow, I would hurl my green beer. Now, I sit and twitch whilst waiting on the soon-to-ensue explosion of easter bunnies hunts.. or the Mothers Day Hunt… or the Ground Hog Days Hunt.. or the Take-A-Turd-To-Work Day hunt.
I think number 4 was the first time I have ever actually laughed out “loud” at an sl secret.. that was great.
#3 perhaps you would like to tell us how much time and money you donated to RFL? now, how much of that did you donate flat out, without asking anything in return?
ANYTHING that the designers donate is something more than nothing… why don’t we make them feel good about it so that they want to do it again, instead of like crap so they stay away next year.
#4 Hilarious did you all notice how he has 2 left feet! it took me some time to notice that, and started a whole new round of giggles…I hope Stiletto has a sense of humor about that, and puts it up in her shop
with permission of course…
I heard GFAK hunts prizes are 80% BIAB items.
I would really like to know why charities are off limits for criticism/joking about. Somebody please explain this to me.
“I would really like to know why charities are off limits for criticism/joking about. Somebody please explain this to me.”
Dancien, its the way it always has been and always will be.
Well that’s completely stupid. As far as I am concerned they are fair game. Just like everything else under the sun.
Not off-limits, but people talk back at those whose complaints are ridiculous.
I’d rather be Barney than Fred…
Clueless, you are aptly self-named. I’ve been running through the GFAK hunt, and while I expect to find some kites have Yadni-ready freebies, most of it has been at shops with designers who do their own work. Some of them have been extremely generous to boot.
I also agree that there are an awful lot of hunts all one after the other. I’m trying to pick my hunts and pace myself so I can still do other things, like DJ or shop or sleep.
I mostly avoided the RFL fair this year. Felt too much like an obligation. Donating at kiosks is more efficient anyway. I bought one kick-ass kimono from FallnAngel there, though. Azriel and Tomo really know their way around that stuff.
As for the prim feet, I have to agree with that secret. In sandals, they look ludicrous, especially if you have to pay that much for them. I bought bare feet elsewhere for far less, and once the HUD designer learns how to do an interface that lets me use it instead of fighting me every step of the way, I’ll be happy. Protip to said designer: not all skin colors on the grid are what you see walking down the street in your average multi-culti city. And editable HSV values are our friends, not the Great Satan. I dare anyone to manage a good drow tone on the SLink bare feet in less than an hour without hacking the fucking HUD.
Re #4… I have the shoes… I am *SO* not a blingtard. I matched them perfectly (thanks for ColorPic 4.1) and if you know what you’re doing, they’ll look really good.
Oh… I did turn off the bling and the clippity-clop noise, though… I’m not a Clydesdale.
Those shoes you colored so painstakingly for your own screen will not look the same on someone else’s screen, for the record. I do not have the SM shoes (too pricy!) but I have the SLink, and while they look wonderful on my screen for my windlight setting, my friends see them as being darker than my skin.
Yeah…I’ve been in SL for 3 years. You’re not telling me anything I don’t already know. That “painstaking” color job took about 30 seconds (with ColorPic). I see them fine. I see them in pics friends take and they’ll pass. Someone might get out their microscope to find all the imperfections but that’s petty.
SL is full of these little imperfections… from animations and poses that have our arms occluding with our waists to hair that seems to slide effortlessly through our boobs. If something like color imperfections on prim attachments has you completely amused, you must spend all of your time giggling like an idiot when you’re on the grid.
Windy: “you must spend all of your time giggling like an idiot when you’re on the grid.”
ROFL
On some level I have to agree with 3. I’m not saying that EVERYTHING should go to charity, cause tier and all that. But there were some cases where I was disgusted by the designers. One shop, who shall remain nameless because I’m respectful, broke my heart.
One of my most favorite stores, I would have bought ANYTHING in their RFL vendor, and probably a couple of other things in the shop. I get to their stall, and whats in the vendor? Oh, right, its the gift from the Peace on Earth hunt, that I didn’t have to pay for, and there is no level of charge. The kiosk had made a whopping 81L at the time. Its like they didn’t care about the whole idea of the fair, and just put some schlock out so that they could have the stand and get the visibility. That made me so hideously mad.
They could have put one of they’re amazing and expensive outfits in the vendor, made a lot for charity and have a pile of good karma. But instead they were a miser and totally selfish, and I’ve lost SO much respect for them. Make a fucking effort guys, it affects our views of you.
LOL@Windy. Agrees.
I was disappointed at how some of the designers ‘boasted’ about the ‘killing’ they made at the fair, rather than the money they raised for charity.
I hardly do Hunts, simply because standing around with 97 blingtards lagging my ass off isn’t my idea of a good time. However, the loco pocos hunt was SO much fun, super creative.
Number 6, I like yours
