My RL brother-in-law is seriously addicted to WOW. He truly does neglect his children and wife. It’s really really sad. And no amount of complaining or badgering has gotten through to him.

The only time his children interact with him is when they are sitting in his lap watching Daddy mind-control the big scary spider-creature and turn it into his pet. Sad.

What Gwen said…neko doesn’t mean emo/grunge. In fact, when I first opened my neko club (the oldest in sl) grunge neko didn’t even exist. People can add ears and a tail to any outfit. Just quit calling everything grungy neko…please.

I don’t wear ears and a tail because I’m a scene kid. I wear them because I look cute. So there.

OH NO!! I never said it doesn’t happen…my comment was directed towards another commentor. People without children don’t understand sometimes. If you hear their kids crying in the background that doesn’t mean they are neglecting them. Little kids cry A LOT and many parents learn to press what my mother calls the Ig button. Growing up I could never understand how I could call my mothers name 50 times and she wouldn’t even flinch. Now that I have one of my own I now understand the art of tuning my child out, especially since I hear MOM at least a hundred times a day. And I only have one.

Distressed you are right you can hear SOME of what is going on in someones house, but you cant see or feel what else goes on in the home. So essentially you’re missing a lot. Turn off their mic if it bothers you.

#1- Have fun being a lightbulb.
#2 -The teen grid sucks- everyone is so fucking ugly there.
#3 – Emos are hotter than nekos.
#4 – I agree people should take care of their mistakes, but I’ve made sure to completely erase and or prevent developement of my first life so that secondlife can now be my priority. (no kids, no obligations etc. life is sweet.)

#4 this is going on people! We have Vent, we have Voice! we can HEAR whats going on in your houses. I used to hang with a girl in SL who was forced to leave SL because she was in danger of losing her children. Why? because she was not caring for them. I stopped talking to her on voice because i was tired of hearing them cry and her complain. I’m glad shes gone! My husband used to play WOW with a married couple regularly. He would complain about (hearing) their children to them, they never seemed to understand or would make excuses. The final straw was when they announced to the group that they would not be on for a week before WOW’s latest expansion. Reason being? So they could power level their “toons” to lvl 80. So basically your saying…”we are going to take a week to spend time with our kids, because next week we will neglect them?” He no longer “hangs” with them either.

Funny about #4….I only ever log in after the kids are in bed and asleep – and I get crap from a lot of people for not being available BEFORE 8pm SLT most nights.

I guess we just can’t make anyone happy, we parents.

I don’t think people would instantly hate you for lying about your age – although it does depend on what you have been doing, like if you have been in a sexual type relationship with someone who believed you were over 18, then that is totally wrong.

No 4
This is a really common situation for women AND men who play SL, I see and hear it all the time too, but I don’t think its fair to criticise someone elses parenting skills (particularly if you aren’t a parent yourself). You don’t know that person or how they interract with their children for the majority of the time.

My kids are both at school all day, so I don’t have this happen often, but there have been occasions I’ve been on SL when my kids are around and they start demanding things constantly, they seem to know when you are absorbed in something and like to interrupt – it doesn’t matter whether it is SL or cooking. I would say “in a minute” no matter what I was doing – you can’t be at their beck and call all the time.

On another note…just because you see someone online doesn’t mean they are actually there that whole time. It’s called being AFK. And I have plenty of friends who have rigged their SL so they don’t get logged off after 30 minutes of inactivity.

To Amanda: I’m a mother of a young child…and sl keeps me sane. Monday through Friday I come home, cook dinner, put my child in the bath then in the bed; THEN I get on second life. After a long day at work it’s something to do besides sit in front of the tv brainlessly. Many of US mothers with little children who play SL or WOW are NOT neglecting our children nor are we lonely hags. Thank you.

1) I’m with Amanda. Changing your Windlight settings will help you spare everyone around you the one or more light sources you’re taking up for false vanity.

2) They might hate you. They might not. Unless you’ve been having SL sex, you may be OK.

3) I’ve avoided looking emo when I’ve done the kitsune thing. Probably because neko is so cliche while so many people seem to think anyone who’d run around in fox ears and a tail would dress the same way.

4) It’s sad when there’s proof an adult can’t pass a child-rearing test, isn’t it? Though you only see one side of the story… or how long have you been spending inworld to know how long she’s there? Unless you’re on disability or unemployed, you may not have room to talk much. I know I don’t.

5) Did so twice already today. Thinking I ought to make it three before bed, just to make sure a base is covered.

There are invisible facelights around that dont show up as globes/boards/hovering-UFOs/oil-rigs. I have the free one from Usagi and I cant find it when ‘hidden transparent’ is on. I have no idea where is lights from. Yay!

1) You could just change your windlight settings so you don’t have to wear a facelight. I wonder if most of the facelit people realize this? Or maybe they just rnjoy watching people freak out at their facelight?

2) Are you an escort or a Gorean slave or something? If you haven’t been doing anything sexual, I can’t imagine why your contacts would hate you.

3) I don’t know, I guess “neko” and “scene” go hand in hand? Maybe it’s the scene kids who are most likely to find being a neko attractive.

4) I sort of agree with you and I sort of don’t. I don’t have any kids, and I can’t imagine I’d have time for SL if I did. I’ve been pretty surprised to meet people with small children who seem to be on SL constantly. At the same time, though, even parents need an adult social outlet. If SL works as a coffee klatch for some lonely parents, then I don’t see the problem.

a lot of you are noobs. the goth scene gets confused with the emo stuff.. the hair doesn’t define emo or goth. Although I do see a lot of emo type people (once i get to know them) crossing it with neko crap. Anyway the person who wrote that might be too old to know the difference. There’s a crossing of emo/neko and goth/neko and they both suck. Fucking nekos are stupid. Most fo the “girls” playing nekos from my experience are guys anyway. What pisses me off is I live near that Harajuku Box sim putting Neko in the description. I live near THAT real neighborhood in Japan on the Yamanote line, not far from Shinjuku, and it has NOTHING to do with Nekos. That person is just getting things mixed up badly in SL. A lot of Japanese players hate it! It’s so depressing that neko crap invades everything in SL.

3. Guns – people who buy them and use them are posers and NOT tough
4. Hunts
5. Bloodlines. When’s White Wolf suing? They already mentioned it in their newsletter if you subscribe. Anyway Bloodlines is lame.

2. I lied about what I looked like for a year. I lost the only person on my contacts that matter to me. He was the only person that cared though… I suppose it helps you figure out who is sincere in their friendship and who is not.. don’t worry too much though, there are thousands of people on sl, there will always be new people to meet.

1. If you’re talking about your joke light then ok. But if you’re talking about your actual face light then it depends on what type you wear. One that lights your face isn’t so bad. It’s the one that lights up the face and body of 10 other avatars in the area that’s annoying.

2. I hope you haven’t done anything with any of them that you shouldn’t be doing. If you’ve just been chatting and hanging they should be ok. They probably already figured you were a kid anyway.

3. Could it be that they are already “Emo” and then want to be Neko. I see hip hop, country, and punk Neko’s. There are already many scenes which one are you hanging in?
