Do your own thing. If you can survive without marketing then think of how great you might do if you actually did market effectively. There’s the clue. Whatever you are doing must be capable of surviving on it’s own. If it does then it is worth marketing. If it doesn’t then you have the next great freebie and can try something else. Either way it all works out in the long run if you stick to it and keep creating art.

The only problem now is not knowing if Linden Lab is going to shut everyone down that isn’t sucking on Linden Dick. No point in making any serious investments in Second Life until Linden Lab shows their hand in 2010.

It’s so funny how upset people get over copybotted content, or “copybotted ideas”.
I get that SL is a place to work for many, but come on. You may not be able to /win/ SL, but that does not make it any less of a game. Too many people rely on this game, and too many people take it way too seriously. I think it’s silly, VERY silly, that people even take the copybot issue to RL court. That is a lot of needed money, time, and energy gone to waste. Sorry.

There is no way to really say “yes” or “no” to #1 as it is unclear what exactly was remade.

If I had to guess, i would say it wasnt legally wrong, more of a moral standard type of thing.

Its actually pretty scary the amount of immoral/amoral people are in this game, and i guess in the world in general.

There is a huge witch hunt on and innocent people are being targetted and yes most are teenagers with nothing else to do or sour mums at home trying to earn a living through second life.

I say, as long as you use your own prims and your own textures, copy anything.

And @ #8… i agree too. The reason is simple, the NOOB in us all has gone and its not a good thing. We expect our clothes and skin to be too perfect so we depend on the major players to provide with these items which are found as fashion shows. Maybe you could start a noob fashion show?

honestly, if all you can offer are recolored versions of the same few items over & over, or actual repeats of items previously offered, or if you cannot even have your items out on time… it might be time to take a back seat & let someone else have a shot.

Copying a design is wrong.. copying the -idea- behind the design is perfectly fine.

E.g. it’s ok to copy the -idea- of drawing wrinkles on clothes to make them look realistic. It’s ok to copy the -idea- of prim feet in shoes. It’s, however, not ok to copy the execution of that idea, i.e. an actual design.

But the argument “If it happened to you, would you like it?” is just silly. There are tons of things in life that you may not like happening to you, but which you have to accept. I might not like it that I have to pay for chocolate truffles, but I have to accept it. I might not like it if someone buys exactly the same hairdo/clothes/shoe that I wear, and copies my look.. but it’s legal.

If you worked hard as a builder and then someone came along, recreated your designs and work and then sold them without a shit what you thought, would YOU be happy? I doubt it.
