#8: Is it any wonder? The new creators don’t advertise themselves very well so half the time events coordinators don’t even know they are there. If you want to change it, find the event coordinator and suggest another store for them to look into. (Either that, or maybe the new store owners HAVE been solicited and they simply don’t want to put in the effort that these better known stores often do put in.) Seriously, that’s a sad, pathetic, “Fashion Mafia” whine.

#8 Same old thing coming up time and time again, the people who are ‘always on the feeds’ or ‘always in shows’ are the ones that know how to market themselves. Ive seen creators who do amazing work but they have a tiny store in a crappy mall and nobody has ever heard of them because they don’t do any marketing whatsoever.

Maybe it’s time someone ‘new’ stepped to the plate and actually created something totally original and successful instead of complaining about it.
But honestly how original is a sale concept or a themed designing event. Its the marketing of it that’s original and makes it stand out.
#1 No that isn’t wrong at all, an idea can never be copyrighted, only how it is executed. Thank god. Just imagine if you werent allowed to make anything in SL becoz somebody made it first. SL bizz people are a bunch of teen-whiners, or work@home-mums with no clue whatsoever about copyrights, IP-infringements, trademark policies. No, you’re wrong… Ripping off someone elses’ hard work and effort is totally wrong. If you’re going to copy their designs etc. then you might as well just fucking copybot the lot and have done with it…
If you worked hard as a builder and then someone came along, recreated your designs and work and then sold them without a shit what you thought, would YOU be happy? I doubt it.
#1 is totally unclear in regards to what is actually copied. Given the background image, it could even refer to all those SL “designers” who copy RL designs complete with trademarked logos.
Copying a design is wrong.. copying the -idea- behind the design is perfectly fine.
E.g. it’s ok to copy the -idea- of drawing wrinkles on clothes to make them look realistic. It’s ok to copy the -idea- of prim feet in shoes. It’s, however, not ok to copy the execution of that idea, i.e. an actual design.
But the argument “If it happened to you, would you like it?” is just silly. There are tons of things in life that you may not like happening to you, but which you have to accept. I might not like it that I have to pay for chocolate truffles, but I have to accept it. I might not like it if someone buys exactly the same hairdo/clothes/shoe that I wear, and copies my look.. but it’s legal.
Yes. And if you do copy the design, it will only be illegal if the court deems it “striking similar”. So cool it and use your energy on marketing, making the best product, and remember: NOBODY really needs virtual goods. So be happy that some will actually buy waht you make.

There is a huge witch hunt on and innocent people are being targetted and yes most are teenagers with nothing else to do or sour mums at home trying to earn a living through second life.
I say, as long as you use your own prims and your own textures, copy anything.
And @ #8… i agree too. The reason is simple, the NOOB in us all has gone and its not a good thing. We expect our clothes and skin to be too perfect so we depend on the major players to provide with these items which are found as fashion shows. Maybe you could start a noob fashion show?

If I had to guess, i would say it wasnt legally wrong, more of a moral standard type of thing.

In regards to #8, the 3DCC opened up a few days ago, with creators like Miasnow, and Stringer Mausoleum. When I went the place was empty. Which is unfortunate, because their work is as good as anything done by the groups behind 50L fridays, designers united, etc.
Also, I know there is a list a mile long for people who want to be involved in 50L fridays, who signed up to do so, but every week we see the same stores, over and over again. Please don’t get me wrong, because I adore 50L fridays, and the designers united events. But I’m positive they could reach in their pool of people and pull out some fresh blood to excite everyone involved.
p.s. #2, you’re kind of a cunt. Post Partum Depression is a serious condition, and your take on it is ridiculous.
I have never even heard of 3DCC – I must have had my head under a rock. And your 50L/DU statement, I hear the same thing too from friends Wrenja and I totally agree with everything you are saying about that. Thanks for expressing this.

#8 I loves all the store involved in DU, 50L Friday, Stumblebum, etc. I still get excited every week. There are a lot of great designers who really want to get in on the mix though. Even one new one each week would be cool.
@ #8: while i too love most of the shops that participate in those events, i do think some might be spreading themselves too thin.
honestly, if all you can offer are recolored versions of the same few items over & over, or actual repeats of items previously offered, or if you cannot even have your items out on time… it might be time to take a back seat & let someone else have a shot.
how exciting would it be to see all new shops, even just once?

Too bad the idea wasn’t yours, but from many other SL magazines and Blogs that were in SL before you ever were. Grow up, and stop running around after people you used to be friends with pretending like they are after you. Clearly it’s you who can’t move on. You’re the only one who wants glory out of SL.
A year is a long time to hold a grudge. Perhaps number 3 needs to learn how to release the anger and move on.

@8 Well, I’m part of 50L Fridays and none of the other events so while there is some overlap, it’s not complete. I’m assuming that some of these people are friends and it seems like common sense to me that people prefer to work with friends. Not that I’m comparing what any of us do to the great cultural movements of history but yeah, the Beats, the Romantics… etc and so forth, they knew one another, were inspired by each other, worked together, etc. If you don’t like it, put together your own event that’s UNIQUE. Not some weak copy of something someone else already thought up.
You guys are a bunch of rabid dogs. Lol.
It’s so funny how upset people get over copybotted content, or “copybotted ideas”.
I get that SL is a place to work for many, but come on. You may not be able to /win/ SL, but that does not make it any less of a game. Too many people rely on this game, and too many people take it way too seriously. I think it’s silly, VERY silly, that people even take the copybot issue to RL court. That is a lot of needed money, time, and energy gone to waste. Sorry.

DU is filled with so many talented creators and the themed events just makes it 10x more interesting to me. i love to see how different designers make a theme their own. but 50l friday does become a bore when some of the leaders of the weekly event dont even bother putting time in to make something brand new. i understand that it is being sold at a discounted price but with everyone that shops at 50l friday youd think that the weekly income from that alone would inspire someone to make something NEW, not just a new color or a slightly changed shirt or dress. each week i do 50l friday and each week i get more disinterested. there are some designers that never fail to give me something that i LOVE for 50l friday but others– i refuse to even go to their store anymore to even just LOOK at the items. i also believe that some of the leaders of it may be more interested in the cliquish world of sl over the content creation. let some others have a chance! and make some new shit rather then just recoloring old things!

And if people want to try originality then that is great. Just don’t expect the “consumers” to like it unless it was in a movie or magazine.
Do your own thing. If you can survive without marketing then think of how great you might do if you actually did market effectively. There’s the clue. Whatever you are doing must be capable of surviving on it’s own. If it does then it is worth marketing. If it doesn’t then you have the next great freebie and can try something else. Either way it all works out in the long run if you stick to it and keep creating art.
The only problem now is not knowing if Linden Lab is going to shut everyone down that isn’t sucking on Linden Dick. No point in making any serious investments in Second Life until Linden Lab shows their hand in 2010.

#1 hahah..is #1 Slyfox Stradling? To those of you who say meh no big deal to copybotting it’s probably because you don’t make hundreds of US dollars in lindens from selling stuff that you actually worked hours on. The minute money ..and good money ..at that is involved it’s game on for builders who wanna defend and protect their products. I think it’s important people do stand up for original art and building and PROTECT it. We are such shameless lazy asses. Go ahead settle for less if you want. But i say copybotters are crooks..lazy, shameless, selfish crooks.
Is number 1 talking about copybotting? With all the decimals that go into prim creation inworld, I would say that it is virtually ‘impossible’ to create a perfect copy (of anything) using the SL build engine. It may look alike, and it may not be an original idea, but it would be at least an original build/approach to that idea. I used to air race in SL before my comp fell so far behind the new graphics engines, and just because there was, say, a Grumman Bearcat inworld…. this did not, in my opinion, make my own build a rip-off.
