1) Are you doing what the blogged people are doing? giving review copies, contacting people directly about blogs?
2) awwww
3) how would they know how people react when they leave?
4) “Your Mum”
5) awwwww
I like #4 because its true. I also liked that i saw the post before people start pulling the secrets
@1) I know this feeling very well as not sales but someone finding it worthy to show it off is the only true acknowledgment. And ‘begging’ like Darkley suggests (others call it “making friends with bloggers”) does take away from the joy of opening the feeds in the morning and THERE IT IS!!!!!
#2 – Thats a true friend, right there… Doesn’t happen often and it’s nice to see
I agree, #2 is lovely…I consider myself lucky to have just such a buddy in SL…wonder who that is, eh?
=^..^=
Number One broke my heart….. I just wish I knew where to go to I could include you in my blog.
It’s not begging, it’s networking, you can’t be make sales if nobody knows you exist
That’s what i ment. For sales you have to “network” (or as others call it“sucking up”). True acknowledgment you only get from strangers.
1)I would blog your items, if I knew which store you were. Also don’t focus on impressing anyone. Design for yourself, for your store customers and above all have fun. the last thing you want to do is measure your SL by standards that are not your own. Huggs
2) that’s a sweet message.
3) Negative much.
4)I’m confused and lost after reading.
5)<3 Love this one. both graphically and with the intent behind it. it makes me smile. REAL Love.
I think the basic message for #4 was “quit crying like little kids and grow up, everyone but me”.
#1. Take your time and create something you care about. Why let SL be a popularity contest?
1. If people like your stuff, they’ll blog it if they can get to it, if you’re using iheartsl group, or directly sending to bloggers, and merchandising your content well, then there shouldn’t be a problem.
2. A part of me wishes this was my friends, but I’m a big headed cow so that’s only natural. I do have friends like this though. I know how lucky I am to have Mari, Jacq and Heather and all my other buddies on plurk who have been there when I’m whiny and stressed with RL.
3. I bet you’ll want the same shit to happen when you flounce off. Go back to high school, flouncey-pants
4. I’m trying to resist the big X spiel, as in click it, and all that goes away. You can always make friends who aren’t emotionally stunted?
5. ;-; I’m welling up a little. I like happy endings.
The people who try to impress are funny.
Do what you do, because you love doing it. Unless you desperately need this income in RL, relax and enjoy.
There are 2 content creators….
#1 makes amazing stuff, original and perfectly shaded, doesn’t blog, doesn’t plurk and doesn’t use SLU, doesn’t do any marketing whatsoever.
#2 makes pretty generic average items, blogs themselves, updates everyone on plurk, slu on each and every item they release and contacts bloggers direct.
Which one do you think has the most sales?
You still didn’t get that secret #1 was not about sales but about acknowledgment, didn’t you?
Same thing – bloggers acknowledge what they like, what they buy – so they amount to about the same thing.
Maybe I have no soul (jk that’s a definite) but #5 just makes me say “girl please.” Use the money you spent on your avatar and home and buy a plane/train/magic carpet ticket to go see them in real life! It’s so worth it!
I think she *DID*, that’s the whole point of her saying poseballs aren’t needed ever again to be held by him, and it’s a story to tell the grandkids.
Yeah, I kind of thought that one was obvious. Even the picture helps explain it.
#5 made me unreasonably happy.
yes it was about acknowledgment, but were they part of the AV black friday? or 50L friday? or was it a ‘private’ sale that maybe the bloggers didn’t know about?
#1: If I knew who you were, I’d rush right over just to wear what you make. I hope I figure it out.
1. Do you contact the bloggers? I don’t think you should really worry about it there are a lot of successful designers that are almost never blogged. Just keep doing your thing. Start sending more updates to your group (if you have one).
2. That’s a nice message and one I think you should send to the person directly. I think they would like that.
3. You cared enough to make a secret.
4. I was thinking about that the other day while hanging in a welcome area. It reminds me so much of highschool. The scary part is most of the people who act like that are over the age of 25.
I agree with Monolock… I don’t think 1 is about the money, but the acknowledgement.
I could have written #5…but you said it just perfectly.
Real, honest..love from the soul can and does happen in SL. I should know..I married my SL love in RL 2 1/2 years ago.
Congrats to you two and everyone else brave enough to make it happen.
xo – Soph Harlow
I WAS SURE IT WAS YOU!!
#1 The only reason folks came to Kevin Costner’s ball field is that they were dead. Here with living people, they need an invite, a notice a contact. If you build it, they won’t come unless they know it’s there. Being one on a list of 30 or 50 stores – that’s not connecting. Look at the feeds and find a blogger who shows clothes in your style and send them a notecard or IM with some pictures.
#2 One of the joys of SL is the true friends who enrich our lives so much.
#3 You obviously care enough to be nasty about it.
#4 Grow up.
#5 Congratulations. Lucky grandkids.
having many friends that design and create in SL, join things like 50L friday and other stuff were they can get accepted into etc – contact bloggers and drop things on them – they do all that and still more oftent han not get ignored.
ther is a sad fact that a hand full bring out a new skin, shoe hair or whatever and its everywere – post after post, making feed all look like a repeat at times.
meanwhile some ofther folk work there ass of and dont often get a look in. one girl I know, open for 2 years, worked solid for the last year marketing and got blogged once.yet others have made things the same standard or not as good and they are all over .
its not all the time and its not every blogger – but if folk cant see the point of number one then they must be blind when reading over feeds
#1 – I have to wonder what you’re “in it” for. If your sales are good why does it matter if you get blogged or not? I used to think being blogged matters, but it doesn’t. Being blogged didn’t increase my sales one iota. Now, if you’re in it because you want to be rich and famous in the SL world, the reality is those days are long since gone. It’s hard and rare for a new designer to come inworld and make killing. Simply put, the SL economy is down and the market oversaturated. However, neither of the above means you should stop creating. If you absolutely must be blogged, give out review copies to your favorite bloggers. And, if you’re having fun creating and people are buying your things and yo like seing your balance go up, just keep doing what you’re doing. Success is not measured by blog mentions alone.
wow #3 just makes me really sad for some reason. Sometimes I’d probably just say *eyeroll* and that those who flounce off probably weren’t as key to the group dynamic as they imagined. I don’t know though, I must be in a mood because it’s making me really sad to think if someone in my circle of friends said that if I left, for any reason.
#5 is just sweetness. Lovely graphical representation too. Best wishes to you both.
LOLZ … love the message but I’m troubled by the bubbly water behind the duck!
not to be a total cunt about #1 but there is a distinct possibility that their stuff just isn’t that good.
That said, even creators who’s stuff isn’t that good can still be successful if they listen to what people in comments are telling #1.
#5 brought tears to my eyes. It’s nice to see a happy ending once in a while.
I think the person who posted #5 is going to have a far more beautiful and amazing life than the spiteful creature that posted #3. Best part of five is – it doesn’t have to be a secret, they can shout it with joy from the rooftops. Far nicer to be able to do than hiding the fact that you uploaded something vicious and small, eh?
I hate to say this but number 4 may be on the mark at times. Yes this statement may be attributed to my current virtual existential crisis, ha, but sometimes I wonder if people are logging into SL in an attempt to relive their childhood and teen years – albeit unconsciously. And no I am not the author of number, LOL.
number 4 I mean. And number 3 you are just a meanie!
I’m just so glad to read on #5 that I’m not the only one! It’s wonderful not dealing with SL’s chat or pose balls and be able to touch your partner everyday! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
#4 is kinda scary! The “Teengrid” maybe more adapted!
As for #3, The other day, I was cleaning my friend’s list and realized from the calling cards still in my inventory that many, many people have come and gone in my SL life over the past 2 years and did not send me a notice either! Did I not mean anything to them? :/ or Is SL such a world that people behind their keyboard forget about the simple community rules and behave like jerks?
#2 convinces me that one can be very naive on SL, like I was when I first started!
#1, the best way to get noticed, is to offer a freebie or have a lucky chair.. word of mouth does the rest!
I think whoever wrote number 3 is a complete hypocrite – obviously the author of number 3 cared enough that this person left seeing how they took the time to submit this secret, LOL.
/me prays #1 is not one of the designers I was to blog and got kidney stones instead and then just couldn’t get back in the swing, and now feels items aren’t new anymore and everyone has seen bought and ready for next. I fail.
#3 hope you feel good about yourself now that you said that all out loud and in secret! I hope you are not a friend of mine, say it after I am gone? Really? Grow a spine, say things face to face instead of being one of those that whispers in the background and yaps behind backs.
#4 Yes negative, but have to admit made me crack up a bit. I mean it does feel like that sometimes. Not just here or plurk, in life. We all go through those periods of time where it seems like we have gone back to Junior High, or someone let all the loony’s out at the same time. Maybe we all went loony at the same time. You know what I mean.
#5 I really, really thought that was Soph, so now there is another happy couple produced from SL. I think that is pretty cool
BTW Kidney stones….SUCK!
<3 =)
#5 got me *right there* in my heart. that’s how I want the story for my ex and myself to end, with us resolving things and taking a chance on happiness together. i don’t care how long i have to wait, i just want to be able to hold her hand and tell her ‘i love you’ in person and call her mine before i die, even if it’s only for one day.
Hi Morgan, I wrote 5. I wasn’t going to say anything because they are secrets (except on my plurk
but Kris and I worked hard for 2 years and 9500 miles. We are together now after a lot of really really hard work, but it is worth it in the end. I think the most important thing is to have confidence in yourself and trust your partner. I wish you all the luck in the world, stay strong and love yourself as much as you love her!
# 3 wow, is that mean. But then I guess that is why it’s a secret.
