  1. Hybie says:

    # 1 Ugh I hate ppl who think they are special just because they own a store. Get over yourself and stop being a prick cause you are starting to sound like Whitney! Repeat after me "Bobbbbby!".

  2. Kat_Alderson says:

#1 – You are being rude, no doubt. You have no idea how wonderful that person may be. Some folks are just naturally gregarious. Some folks just want to pay you a sincere compliment. Hopefully, your skills are greater than your ego.

    #2 – I concur!

#3 – There is no failure when the folks are involved are doing it fight on the side right.

    #4 – Amen!

#5 – I am so sorry for your loss.

  3. Emerald_Wynn says:

No. 1 is exactly why I'm usually SKEERED to talk to designers I like.

  4. Katie says:

I wish I knew who wrote #1 so I could be sure to never shop in her store. I can't stand designers that think they are so special. Some happen to be good at photoshop, but as you can tell by this secret, many should NOT be running a business. They would fail in RL and they are sitting at home in their pajamas just like everyone else.

  5. Tesa Jewell says:

Why don't people capitalize? This drives me up the wall. I agree with Katie on #1 and hope too many do not feel like Emerald, because you are just another person who likes PC's and sits behind one more then they probably should like the rest of us. Get over yourself.

  6. KateyCoppola says:

It totally makes my day when people IM me and say they like the crap I make! Srsly, every time anyone ever says "I like your store!" I get warm fuzzies. But I'm a mushy twat.

  7. #1 I think you need to a SLacation.

#2 Its annoying for all for 2 seconds

    #3 Yawn

    #4 YAY!

#5 Hugs to you my friend

#6 Why don't you click the "x" at the top of your screen. And wow is it possible they are not blogging to please you?

  8. Cherie Parker says:

#1 Oh crap… that's probably because I IM'ed two skinners this week and told them how much I liked their new skins… sigh… ok I'll refrain from doing that again. Trust me… creepy fangirl I'm not…

  9. 1. I admit to being a creepy fangirl (sorry, Ryker). Some creators complain that no one ever IMs to compliment or thank them, and then you have secrets like this one from designers who are put off by the same behavior. What's a stalker, erm, I mean shopper, to do?

    2. I actually like the greeters that pop up a blue box menu so I can choose if I want their group/landmark/website info. I'd like it better if I only got that menu ONCE during my visit, though.

3 and 4. I think there are good intentions behind the 5th of November protest, but my perception, from the outside, is that it has generated too much divisiveness to have the desired effect. I don't know what the solution is, and I will support those who choose to participate, and those who don't, but I do hope that we can open a dialogue that focuses on educating the consumers about content theft and what steps to take when it is discovered.

    5. *hugs*

    6. Good thing there are 847 other blogs to take their place in your feed reader.

  10. Shamrawk says:

#1. I think what some designers forget is the following:
    1. You are a person too, no matter how great your store does in a virtual world.
    2. Compliments mean return business, which means you get to pay your bills by money earned in SL (most are not lucky, and have to work full time IRL to pay their RL bills)

I think the fact that you stated you are genuinely nice got lost in the fact that in the next sentence you are trash talking the people who make it possible for you to continue to do what you're doing. You need to work on that and hope no one knows who you are otherwise you just lost a lot of potential and return customers.

  11. Beulah says:

@#1 Any designers I know likes feed back and folk letting then know they love ther designs/creations.
I cant create in SL and respect all that do – and wil continue to IM designers and say THANK YOU for all your hard work.
If I get a rude reply then I know not to shop ther again

  12. As a side note to #3 and #4. There is this other group, formed months ago… Step Up. http://step-up-sl.ning.com/ and http://stepupsl.wordpress.com/ Running a somewhat different kind of event on the same day. I'll not go into the differences as I'm not in both groups. However I thought it might be nice to mention there is an option on the 5th.

    • Darkley says:

Yes, I have a step up kiosk at my place, its a 24 no upload day on November 5th

      • Kat_Alderson says:

It should be pointed out that not uploading supports both groups, which is just wonderful. Artist's Voice just offers more ways folks can participate, and a longer window in which to do so. Many thanks to both groups for the good work they are doing..

  13. Notspecial says:

I don't think that is what number #1 was talking about. Everyone loves when people im and tell them they are doing a good job. I am extremely appreciative of the fact thats someone would take the time out and tell me how much they like my items. What makes you clam up is when that person in the next few sentences start asking really personal questions and then wants to hang out constantly, this is after meeting you for a few minutes. It would freak anyone out.

No one is saying that designers are special, i certainly don't feel special but whether i had a store or not I wold rather not hear about you bf and how much of a jerk he is the minute I meet you, I'd rather not have you send me a blind tp everyday to hang out and sometimes I have to actually work so I can't really chat, so if I say I have to go afk because I am in ps or something then you really don't have to keep talking.

  14. Aimee says:

Personally I'd take the whole "Artist Voice" thing more seriously this blog and the people behind it weren't involved.

    • Kat_Alderson says:

Aimee, I am sorry to hear you feel that way. I am really pleased and proud to be a member of Artist's Voice. There are many wonderful content creators and consumers involved who are working very hard on a variety of materials and events to educate people about content theft and what they can do to stop it. Perhaps you will be kind enough to look at the whole picture, and maybe set aside any personal differences. Content theft adversely affects everyone, and working in a bipartisan environment to put an end to it should be very rewarding!

  15. 1. That's one of those things that humble people learn not to complain about.

    2. All it takes is clicking ignore. You act as if they're sending you update info and IMs when you didn't sign up for the group.

    3. No one expects everyone on the grid to participate. If you decide to continue your normal SL day then that's your call.

    4. Co-sign

    5. I hope you find solace in that.

    6. Then keep it moving.

  16. Liana says:

#5, thank you – finally, an SL Secret in the proper spirit of Post Secret.

  17. DuskyJewell says:

    1. I have worked very hard in SL, and when one person shows that they like something I did….it makes it worth the effort. Even when the praise for my work is given to my partner. I have come to dislike a couple of people that I once admired….and that sucks. The assh*le egos like yours are rampant and overblown on SL.

    5. What a sad little secret.

    6. LOL @Nancy Grace comparison. I like reading the scams and sh*t here, keeps my old a*s from registering on Plurk.

  18. I would love to know who #1 is cause I would never step foot in her store. Its a prime example of why I rarely talk to designers unless I see they are cool and down to earth.

  19. Eboni Khan says:

I love to hear from my customers, it keeps me motivated. People like #1 are the kind of people that cling to SL fame and when it is gone, they are lost. Good Luck with that.

  20. An Artist says:

#1 doesn't appreciate his/her customers. It's great when someone likes my work enough to IM me and tell me, even if they do it every few days, or everytime they buy something. It keeps me going. My ego is never too big to appreciate people who want to buy the silly things I make. :-)

  21. ThomasD Felisimo says:

Re: #1…I always try to be nice to customers who IM me. But I have to say that I've had a few cases where "I love your work" quickly turns into hitting on me…and then we have to have an awkward conversation about how the person behind the keyboard is missing a few appendages that I have, like horns and a tail *coughcoughcough*

  22. redgiantess says:

#1-Someone whose shop should be avoided. Fail.

    #2-TESTIFY!!!11

#3 and #4-Meh. I consider myself in solidarity, but the impact will be underwhelming.

    #5-*hugz*

#6-lulz @ the Nancy Grace reference. That having been said, blogs multiply like cockroaches. Move on.

  23. AisuruRieko says:

#1, I've talked to some very nice designers by being a little bit of a creepy fangirl, and in a couple of cases, have made a good friend. As someone who makes the random odd thing, it makes my day when someone likes my stuff enough to send a NC or IM to let me know. It's really sweet. That being said I know there are people who don't have as clear an idea of social boundaries and who think that a couple of cordial exchanges means you're BFFs now, and it's situations like that where our social graces come into play, tact, manners and all that.

  24. Baily says:

Oh no.1, you fuckwit, another up themself creator who thinks they’re above everyone else. Just what the world needs, you complete and utter retard!

  25. Eff Mons says:

#4- I'd really rather do something effective. There are better things to do if you just want to do something "together."

  26. #1 is the reason for #3

Putting all into the same bucket is stupid. There is no content creator character class and no customer class. Neither there is "the copybotter" character class.

No one forces you to close for 48h, as well as noone forces me to buy anything.

But still, a vist to Trudeau's Jachts and looking for a next ship to buy is great and the only better thing is the first rezz and the tour around the blake sea. I really can not count for how long I walked around the Tradewind ;o) (the J-class is awesome, too)

But the same goes for a long list of fashion shops on the grid.
Folks, many of your customers do not care if someone has your shop in a box, these customers visit your shops because they appreciate your work.
And #1 is destroying this. Sure, some IMs might be annoying from time to time, like in a RL shop, but this is something we have to deal with.

  27. Miss Jay says:

#1 If I ever find out what store you own I will be sure to:

    a. Never shop there
    b. Trash every amount of product from your store that has ever been apart of my wardrobe

I would rather wear a garbage bag and sleep in a garbage can than be seen with your products.

  28. secrets suck this week, what a waste of space

  29. Trubble says:

    1. Send them to me, I love to talk to my customers and have made some excellent friends that way. Plus I love to hear feedback, and who better to tell me where I can improve than the people who are buying.

    2. I agree, it is annoying, but unfortunately it seems to be standard practice for some.

    3+4. No comment.

    5. That made my heart melt. So sorry for your loss.

  30. The person who wrote #1 obviously has no idea how rewarding it is to be appreciated for something you put your heart on. "Designer" is just a word, We are all people, we just have different jobs. I feel encouraged to work better every time someone tells me they like my stuff :)
Fangirl can be used as such a demeaning word, it's sad really, because we all act like that when we feel enthusiastic about something. I know I DO, when I talk to a creator I admire.
Some people should learn how to be more tolerant.

  31. I love fangirls, they are my TYPE of girl!! ;)

  32. Applonia says:

#1 I never heard of Such!! as a Creator/Designer I LOVE the FEEDBACK I get from customers and friends it helps me to see what im doing etc..And to the poor lady or Male if that Person doesnt want ya..You can always consider me a friend.
