#5 RULES!
And I also wanna have SL Glee!!!!
ha! First?
1. usually free skins are tan, which sucks for dark skinned and really pale skinned avis, but meh
2. stupid clearly just used a greeny windlight for this picture
and yes 5 does rule lol that gun is aiming straight for prok lawl
To be honest, I see that skin greenish too, and my normal setting is midday, no green for me there…
Hooray for #5
Pff skin makers could give out a free smurf skin if they wanted to, you're still lucky they do. Who said they have to cater their free stuff to your wants? Say THANK YOU.
Yes, skin makers can give out anything they want and I am sure people receiving them are grateful. But a lot of times skin makers say they are doing so to thank their customers. So, I guess they are only saying thank you to the customers who wear light skins? What if they mixed it up a bit maybe light skins one time and a dark skin another time?
Why not try wearing a different skin color? It's free – it didn't hurt your linden balance any. And, it's fun to try on different skin colors to see how they will react with certain hair, styles of dress, etc.
there was me thinking a free item was a nice thing.
If it suit YAY, if it doesnt well its ok didnt cost anything anyway.
Collen youre forgetting designers such a Tuli, Annyka from Blowpop, Launa from Chai, The cupcakes girls, and eleventy twelve others who give out gifts in ALL TONES. maybe you should keep an eye out for those.
yes, support your equal rights skin designers! Let the racist skin designers perish!
I love the hell out of #5.
And the pale tone thing for #1? I wear dark tan skins, and if I get a free pale that I love, well hell, I go and buy it in a dark tan shade. It is called marketing.
Dont bitch about freebies. In this instance, they exist to show the skin and generate interest. Cripes I am sick of people bitching about the freebies not being perfectly geared towards them.
Skin makers, (and all other creators) thanks for the freebies. You rock, and I appreciate the work you do.
nice button broken and I love it!
NO Kidding! I swear people are so rude. You are not OWED anything for being a customer of a designer, you found them because you liked their product. Now you expect them to give you custom for you free things? If they give out a gift you say thank you and move along not bitch b/c it’s not your preferred color! FFS really? Did mothers forget to teach manners or did the kids just forget them, I am shocked by how often comes up. Grrrr
#5 wins this week. Kthxbai.
1. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. True there is nothing you can do with that skin but the bottom line is..it was free. Try joining Tuli group since you pay to get in she's really good about sending out a mix of skin tones.
2. Could be your viewer or your graphics card isn't worth sh*t.
3. Sometimes your perception has more to do with you than the person you're observing. Have they sold out or could you be a little jealous?
4. There used to be a couple singers that hung out in Ahern. Don't remember their names.
5. No madam you don't.
…has zero issues with pale free skins, and is quite happy to help out and Turn anyone so they can enjoy them too.
It's all the free skins with boobs that piss me off.
/me hugs Winter lmao
I fully support this.
When the gifts are a part of SL History (even xstreet is planning on banning freebies so what is next?) then you can thank the wrong attitudes for it. I used to have a big pile of gifts in my store. Right up until the day those people were standing in my store oblivious to who I was talking about how stupid designers are for giving away so much stuff. I agreed with them and deleted the freebie pile before their eyes. "Oh this is your store?" hah hah yes it is.
Go ahead and complain all you want. Probably won't be too long before you have to actually buy something to complain about it.
(As for the green alien smudges? Sounds like someone is altering tints but doesn't actually have the highlights on a separate layer. hmmmm)
LOVE NUMBER 5! You look gorgeous and like someone I'mma need on my FL.
#5 – high fuckin five!!!
#4- I call sue!!
#1- I'll take your free pale skin if you don't want it
@ # 1: Even in 2009, a lot of SL skin designers still don't care about black/brown people. This isn't exactly news. I find it annoying too, since my lindens are just as good as fair skinned people's lindens. Sin Skins just put out a group gift in all their skin tones- now you know where to bring your business.
(I don't know why you all seem to think Tuli offers dark skins, btw. I'm there right now, and the darkest shade offered is a medium tan. I imagine that's not what #1 is looking for, and thank goodness there are plenty of skin shops in SL that have something for us dark and lovely types.)
@ #5- Are we, perhaps, familiar? Well done all around, from the sentiment to the artwork.
I own dark skin tones from Tuli and by dark I don't mean tan. I went to the store and noticed her latest releases didn't feature a darker tone than tan. She's supposed to release a newer skin soon so we'll have to see then.
I don't know, Stella, I wandered around Tuli yesterday just to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I've been there in the past and left with nothing but disappointment. I didn't see anything that was darker than a medium tan. Since there are plenty of stores that offer skins in my preferred tone, I'll shop there instead.
LOL@5. Yes. The guns are badass. Not the dork holding them for protection after getting her eye busted. But an impressive message for those who aspire to be tough, nonetheless. Heh. (I am a gun collector and don't see guns as empowerment.)
1. Don't wear freebie skins. You will feel less like a tool on ignore, if you stock up on skins that are EXACTLY what you want. Freebies are always the wrong skin tone, the wrong eyeshadow, the wrong lipcolor…fricking USELESS..period. OK?
3. You need to just STFU…or pay her webhost/domain bill.
*LOVE* #5, completely the response that was required after the furore that was generated. Couldn't have been put more eloquently..and the picture is HOT!
=^..^=
Hmm let's see in the past month I have gotten darker skins from Belleza, Free Speerit and Cupcakes-so yeah join some different groups.
#5 Uh, yes actually you do. A pissed off victim with two guns.
Just two comments:
Freebies are a gift not a privilege.
Love #5.
As for #1: Skins are a fundamental part of one's identity – real life or Second Life. Being exluded from something based on skin tone is nothing new under the sun … and it a sensitive issue for many. By offering something in a specific tone range, particularly something like a freebie skin to an update group – which is primarily a gesture of appreciation and secondarily marketing promo tool – the inadvertent message is that only those whose preference it is to wear lighter tones were a consideration and only that group is appreciated.
Especially when the skin creator already offers light to dark tones, but chooses consistently to acknowledge only wearers of light skins with gifts, this can alienate existing customers and prevent prospective ones from subscribing to one's brand.
That's a sure way to lose my patronage.
All or nothing when it comes to freebie skin tones, IMO.
The medium is the message.
The problem with giving out "all" skin tones is that you just gave your group your entire range for free.
A good idea would be for someone to create a play-off of the "one per avatar" script and have it so it works amongst a network of prims. For instance, shop owner sends out a notice saying "Free skins as a thank you, TP to pick one up from this attached landmark!". Customers go to the location, there are 5 skins set out, light to dark..something for everybody. They are set in 5 separate boxes, and a script is inserted into all boxes. The script prevents a single avatar from being able to buy (For 0L) all 5 boxes. They can only pick ONE box. After receiving their choice of skin, any attempt to buy from one of the other 4 boxes is declined. This way, everybody has a choice of 5 skin tones to choose from, while at the same time, shop owner is not handing out their entire range to everybody.
I know there is a script that does that but it only works with one product box. Someone should make a script that works amongst a network of boxes for situations like these.
I guess, but really, how many people use an entire range of skins? I know there are people, but most stick to one skin tone. I know I do for the most part, and plenty of other people do as well. It certainly doesn't seem to hurt the creators who do so, from Atomic (i know they gave out a full range for 4th of july), to Cupcakes etc.
I absolutely agree with you Catero 100%. And that's all I have to say at this time, ha!
Maybe if more people put their money where their mouths were and actually *supported* the creators who DO offer diverse skins, there'd be more of them available.
you know .. the damn designers …. can't protect their shit, get all whiney and sensitive when they lose money, they used to be interesting but now they are sell-outs, they think they are all that, everyone used to date them but dumped them because they can't stand them anymore, everyone else does their work actually, they are all fakes, they can't figure out the right freebies to hand out … and I hated the colour of that last dress they gave me …. let's just line them all up and let #5 take them out and then we can all get back to bowling online which is my real passion ….
/me pulls Bliss over his knee and spanks her shouting 'I've told you [slap} a hundred times [slap] not to use sarcasm [slap] people are just too damn [slap] sensitive! [slap].
Suspect I know who #3 is about.
Never did quite get this kind of sentiment. No one starts publishing on an internationally accessible platform because they want to remain obscure. And given the type of blog it is… where else could it have gone, really? If not fame and freebies. Well, I suppose they could have failed. Maybe that would have made you happier.
Hmmmm…a lot of people seem to not get that #1 isn't about freebies, it's about racism. It isn't exactly the same thing as bitching, "Oh, you sent out a free purple dress, and I wanted the blue."
In SL, it can be, its supply and demand, skin makers know what sells, and its their choice to give a freebie/marketing copy to customers and potential customers
There are lots and lots of skin makers who do give out varied tones.
I agree, everything comes down to supply and demand, even in SL. Creators tend to make more of what sells. Unfortunately, there is little demand for black skins as most avatars choose to be caucasian in SL.
Thats debatable. I cant remember the last time I laid eyes on a clearly visible "Caucasian" male avatar. They all seem to want to be Tall, Dark, and Handsome.
Its not about racism, J freaking C. And i don't know what groups ya'll are in, but the one or two i have been in for a while dont give out free stuff.
You cant make everyone happy. Thats the bottom line.
#5, yes you do. holding a gun doesn't make you look any less like you got beat up…pulease…#4, i will duke it out with you to be Emma
#1, you have a point, since i never wear paler skin tones…but also, be grateful they gave anything!
I thought # 3 might be about me, but then again it can't be – I've always been about free shit and fame. o/
ily creamy <3
Well it seems that Bliss Windlow's humour is not for all people, her 'tongue in cheek' sarcasm approach is taken the wrong way by some people, I thought it was a very funny way of supporting the designers way of giving freebies.
