Unless you are completely obsessive (like me) most of you will have inventory headaches from time to time, trying to find things, forgetting where you put items and just seeing the amount of stuff you have climb and climb. There are lot’s of different methods of keeping your inventory simple and easy to use, but this is mine.
There are 2 things you can do to make your SL easier
1) Filing…… I know, I know, it’s so boring, but once you have your folders organised it’s easy to keep them up. What I do with my inventory is create folders within folders, so for example in Body Parts I have SKINS, SHAPES, HAIR, EARS ETC, EYES, LASHES and even these have subfolders in HAIR i have Long/Short/Hats/Updo/Old hair, because even I can’t bear to throw some things out. RIGHT CLICK AND VIEW to see larger.
I tend to file things in the main folder first, then when I get time, put it in the right subfolder.
The object folder is a pain, some things don’t come under an easy category, so I do file under objects.
2) Deleting…. This doesn’t have to be as harsh as it sounds, you can easily delete thing that you don’t want/need/even know you have, by using the inventory filters. You don’t need 25 Landmarks to Truth, or unpacking scripts, or 50 pose stands, and you won’t even notice they have gone.
I dropped 300 items just removing these unwanted/unneeded things.
If you are feeling brave you CAN delete some items that you will never use, most hair packs come with various shades, and if like me you will only ever use 1 of the colours in the pack, just delete the others.
Above image, I’ve removed the Male versions of the RQ hair, the 5 blondes from the Magika hair and the other 3 blondes from the Miau Haus hair.
I do keep my textures in Labelled notecards, to keep the numbers down even further, under category, although some people like to use a texture sorter.
So, I’ve revealed a piece of my OCD to you.

My inventory looks really similar, with the exception of objects which is a trainwreck. I’m hyper organised too, to the extent that I get grumpy if I have to scroll my top screen haha
This is pretty much how I maintain mine, as well. I even have two folders under my main inventory named “Demos to try”, which is where I keep the Demos I collect until I can make up my mind, and “Things to Sort” where I keep the items from hunts and shopping trips that I just haven’t had time to sub-categorize yet.
Like Katey said, it keeps from having to scroll.
)
I finally bit the bullet and went through my Objects folder. It took me about three days, but it was so amazing to finally get it under control. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it. And now that it’s organized, it stays organized.

*nods* Mine looks like this too!
It took me 2 days when I did this hmm maybe 2 years ago. But since then, my inventory is almost always clean.
I have a folder called “NEW”, and when I´m lazy, I put anything new there (But not things I bought. Those go to the right place right after). Some things are there for month without me missing it, so I delete them.
Hair Fatpacks are Inventory killers… Why keep brown pink purple blue teal and white, when I always wear black oder red?
I eliminated ALL landmarks 2 years ago. From shops I like I got stuff, so I can go and look at the creator profile. For plants, animations, “body stuff” I made notecards. So I`m still unter 16.000 Items after almost 3 years, and I buy a lot.
I try to keep as little as possible in my default folders, instead I have things ordered with “! ” at the beginning. Stores I have a lot of stuff from have their own “! ” folders [e.g, "! silentsparrow"] and then I have things ordered into what they are…like in my main inventory window, I have “! Just Bottoms” for example, and in that, subfolders for different lengths of skirts, pants, etc.
Hair and Jewelery and other non-clothing stuff also has its own “! ” folders in the main Inventory bit, and then in that, subfoldered by creator and then style, or type, or whatever. If I don’t have a lot of stuff from one creator, I’ll bung it in a generic subfolder, such as “! Necklaces” or “! Single Style, not red” or…something.
It’s possibly a bit haphazard, and involves scrolling, but it works for me and is actually hideously organized for….the size of it
Yes looks very much like mine too, however I do not use the objects folder. I use it more as a sort of transient folder, to store until I file it, mainly because most things you buy go directly to objects.
I do need to organise my hair a bit better though, currently it sits in a folder named hair under body parts, but sub folders for styles would be good.
Also, I’d be interested to know, do you guys keep clothing as it comes in it’s folder, like say a top and jeans do you put the jeans in a jeans folder, take the top, put it in a tops folders?
I don’t myself, I just keep them in ‘outfits’
I have an “Outfits” folder too, but I subcategorize them by “Pant Suits”, “Skirt/Pants” (for those outfits that come with both), “Jeans and Tees”, and “Shorts/Capris”.
I have “! Just Pantsy Outfits” and “! Just Skirtythings” and subfolders within, again, I generally don’t separate folders unless it’s like, a mixed avatar and I only want to keep, say, the Skin or whatever.
Someday, I’ll take a picture of my inventory for you guys. Then you’ll realize why I love the search function so much…
(It’s such a damned mess.)
i helped my boyfriend organize his inventory, oh dear lord. i actually premade his outfits for him so he could just click ‘replace outfit’ this helps to prevent him walking around with clothing and forgetting to put on the prims. or suits with chucks, although that is a cute look for him.
I have one tip to share – and it probably *is* rather OCD on my part, but after SL ate some of my folders, I made a separate Backups one, subdivided into cathegory subfolders, and everything that I like and is copiable, goes there too, to be packed and kept – just in case.
oh wow. So jealous.
I tried to sort mine by colors, but the rest of things, like objects, houses etc, are just thrown into one large folder >.<
Brilliant tips:)
OR you can just have the surprise of one day discovering that thousands of your ‘precious things’ have been removed from your inventory without your even knowing…
Can you hire somebody to do this for you?
