This is going to be my last post on SCD. Tenshi and I have decided that I should retire from the blog we built from the ground up, so that’s what I’m going to do. But I’m not going before I can thank you.
I was never really into computer stuff before I started to play Second Life. I downloaded it on a lark and didn’t think I’d like it very much. Apparently I was wrong! I got way into the fashion scene and opened up my shop (Punch Drunk) soon after. I read all the blogs (there were only about 5 at the time) every day and loved the whole fashion culture of SL. I met Tenshi after being in-world for about a month and we hit it off right away. We were on the same wavelength and both had really strong opinions. We decided to open our own blog after we saw that newer designers didn’t get much coverage by the bigger blogs, so we thought that reviewing new designers would be the heart of our blog, which we decided to name Shopping Cart Disco. We wanted a name that would be fun and vivacious, just like we wanted our blog to be.
After writing for a bit, we realized that a lot of fashion news didn’t get covered in SL. A lot of people were doing bad things that didn’t get talked about, just like there were a lot of people doing good things that didn’t get talked about. We decided to start covering fashion news as well as straight-up fashion and that’s when we really hit our stride. We had so much fun working on the blog and I think you can tell from our writing.
Eventually the workload was getting to be too much, so we started hiring other writers. We agreed to only hire people that we really like and respect and I think that’s what makes SCD feel like a family. We all look out for each other and we all work together so well. Thanks to all our writers, past and present, for being so amazing. Everyone we’ve ever hired has been the cream of the crop and I hope it continues that way.
I’m going to miss my favorite features. SLsecret is what I’ll always consider my project-baby. It was a symbol of our collective unconscious in SL. We’d get soul-bearing secrets and fluffy, funny secrets in the same week. It’s a huge thing for someone to take their innermost soul, stick it on a JPEG and fling it into cyberspace for everyone to see. When it was good it was great and when it was bad it was, well, interesting. I’m really going to miss everything about SCD. I hope it never changes.
Now I want to thank you, our readers. Writing on SCD has been and will probably remain the highlight of my SL. Many of you have been here from the beginning and some of you are just finding us. Thank you for reading and participating. We’ve formed a community through the comments here and that’s all thanks to you guys. We’ve all laughed and fought and mostly just had a great time together. I know when I recognize a name from the comments section in-world I freak out a little and IM the person all happy to meet them in SL. We’ve had long-time readers IM us to give us tips on a story or just show their support and that always means so much. Even if you don’t comment, just the fact that you open up this page and give us your time means a lot. This is killing me to write and I’m going to miss you guys more than anything.

Iris, I always percieved you as being the voice of reason in the midst of high emotion, a calming influence when things got too heated, a mother hen looking after her chicks
I think SCD will be the worse off without you. I do hope you’ll still be around in the background keeping an eye on things 
Iris, please reconsider and stay – just so we know you’re there in the background,even if you don’t have time to write stuff. You and Tenshi ARE SCD, it wouldn’t be the same without either of you.
Now that we know the truth I am even sadder.
