#7 please don’t be discouraged, please don’t allow a bully to push you away from what you enjoy doing. There is the occasional designer so insecure they will try to bully and intimate you, but I’d like to think most designers would be encouraging to new designers. I know for a fact it happens because it happened to me by a prominent designer, relentlessly and for a very long time. I’m not even sure she’s done yet, she pops up every few months with some new tactic to try to get to get me to leave. I’m still here, my business is successful, I refused to allow her to run me off.

Stand your ground, ignore it as hard as it is to do and fight back and stay positive. I would also advise you to AR every instance of bullying and harassment and keep records of everything, log IM’s and take screen shots. Please don’t let them get away with this.

#3 Maybe the problem is you. I don’t know what the hell freebies, sucking up to designers, or being popular has to do with actual friendship. (other than being a list of things you tried and failed with) Real friendship takes actual work, like being a good friend to someone.
