Turkey and Copybot. Happy Thanksgiving from SCD.
Posted on 25. Nov, 2009 by Delora Starbrook in Delora's (Out Of) The Closet, Fashion, Wall of Shame
Happy Thanksgiving, a day in advance, folks.
I’m forgoing my normal attitude and goofy jokes today after what I just dealt with while purchasing a turkey avatar to take pictures of for this blog post. There will still be pictures of the turkey today, but I have a story to tell first.
I strolled into an adorable shop a little while ago and spotted a few well-dressed French people hanging out in one of the side rooms talking about a cow. I paused and listened in for a moment, then saw the green text that always makes me sick to my stomach.
[14:38] Enti Inspect shouts: No Touch Noob !!
[14:39] Enti Inspect shouts: No Touch Noob !!
I highlighted transparency, and sure enough there they were. All three of the people were covered with these stupid shields. By the time my jaw picked up off the floor and I started taking pictures, one had already teleported out. Sorry folks, I’ve already forgotten that one’s name. :(
As I usually do when confronted with content theft, I immediately notified the creator who’s turkey avatar I had just purchased.
[14:40] Delora Starbrook: Jenee, I stopped by your store to pick up a turkey avatar for blogging, and there are currently three copybotters in your store.[14:40] Delora Starbrook: If you are available, you may want to come get rid of them. Now.
[14:42] Jenee Marten: Wouldn’t be the first time, ty
[14:43] Delora Starbrook: You’re welcome.
[14:44] Delora Starbrook: One’s gone already, the other two are standing here beside me: nova Arun and Mari Vendetta.
[14:45] Jenee Marten: Well, standing there would only be able to steal my textures
[14:45] Jenee Marten: unless tehy bought and unpacked everything
[14:45] Delora Starbrook: Yes, they’ve got anti-inspect shields on, and everything I’ve inspected through the shields is made by one or the other of them
[14:47] Delora Starbrook: I’m going to head out and get this av photoed… It’ll be up on shopping cart disco within an hour or so. :)
Jenee must get hit by this sort of crap a lot, judging by the ‘oh, just another day’ conversation I had with her. I feel bad for her.
Emerald Viewer allows you to ‘derender’ prims by right clicking them and selecting ‘derender’ from the pie menu. I did this to the two remaining avatars, one by one, and inspected their attachments.
This is a very useful tool to see what people are hiding. If you’re not using Emerald yet, you should try it.
So yeah. Just another day on the grid, I guess. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I’ll leave you with a picture of the tiny turkey avatar that’s probably being copybotted as I write this.

This shit makes me so sick. Not only were they botting, but the store owner had been victimized before.
I’m losing faith in people. I’m so disgusted.

I’m confused, just because they have anti inspection shields on how does that make them copybotters?
Delora Starbrook

If you enlarge the pictures, you’ll see. The anti-inspect shields are very frequently worn by copybotters to hide what they’ve done; these people were no exception. I derendered the shields and inspected their attachments, all of which were same creator as owner.

There’s actually no real need to wear anti-inspection shield, ever. They don’t prevent copybotting/avatar copying, and a ‘unique look’ isn’t all that unique unless you’re a purple cow with wings.

I’m just…hollow. Every bit of news like this makes me hollow.

I’ve run into avatars with anti inspection and I don’t think they were copybotting, they had the attitude (in their profile) of “I’m special ! Don’t read my profile! Don’t copy me ! ” kinda thing.
Usually of course they are wearing something highly recognizable. If I can’t recognize what they are wearing right off I usually just right click derender, then right click edit, and see what they are wearing and shoot them and IM complimenting them, very specifically, on the look the put together using x, y, and z.
But I did run into an avatar less than 30 days old, wearing an anti inspect, and when I derendered it and checked her hair and boots listed her as the creator.
She tp’d away before I could even double check her name and send an IM.
So now take it more seriously trying to figure out if they are copybotting things or just pulling attitude.

Hello troll, my name is Delora Starbrook, and I am a content creator. This shit is what prevents me from paying for essential things such as my apartment rent and medication for my sickly cat. Shut the fuck up.

Ohai. She’s busy making pretty things on the computer and getting money from it. I’m sure a lot of people wish they could too. You, oh glorious anonymous internet troll, are sitting around bashing people on blogs. Soooo….I guess the real question is don’t YOU have anything better to do? Pfft.

Honey, no offense, but if you rely on SL for essentials, you have far bigger issues than copybot and who is doing it.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I make more money in SL than I ever would working at McDonalds, believe this. And if I wasn’t working in SL, that’s likely what I’d be doing in this economy.

Yeah, sorry NachoMom but you can just have a nice big slice of shut the fuck up with your turkey dinner. The people who say this are ALWAYS the people who wish they could turn a profit in SL.
Hi5 Delora. LM me your store?

If she can do it, then do it. I have a regular job that pays me. I was not being trollish. And popping out with the big giant ‘STFUps” right off the bat…come on..I know you can do better. Kisses.

I’m starting to wonder how many trolls we’re going to get tonight… and how many are going to forget to veil their IP addresses so I can’t track back comments.

D shot me this article earlier today and I just kinda.. ugh.
I really don’t have anything new to add to the pot of comments anymore. I’ve heard it all, and said more than half of it.
As if the bevy of freebies and low-cost specials (Hey even I love 50L Fridays) isn’t enough. There’s just no excuse for content theft.
Plagiarists are doodyheads, Copybotters are the doody stuck to the bottom of the shoe of doodyheads.

Excuse me I am French and speaks little English, I do not the approach of debora We see people everywhere with anti inspect me even I own one, this fact does it for me and people who possess anti inpection, the copyboteur.Debora You need to have a life sl sad and you’re a pathological liar. You have discussed with the designer, she said that these people had to buy his items. Or is copyboot? And now you go, you make posters photo comments, you will fill the blogs, if you do that every time you meet a person wearing an anti inspect. you give interresting is just that. It is a pity to see it. Accuse others without evidence People like you create an unhealthy climate in sl; the false accusation is of another era.
Delora Starbrook

wip, if you had made the pictures bigger, you would have seen the inspect windows that I confirmed the copying with. I looked at their hair and other attachments, and took pictures. Every single attachment they were wearing had the same creator name as the owner name.

If you feel offended by being banned for wearing anti inspect then don’t wear the idiotic thing. We can see right through it anyway. And almost everyone is banning on site and reporting to merchant groups for mass banning any avatar wearing one so wear at your own risk. It is your problem if you choose to wear one. Not the merchants.
Repeat: Anti Inspect Does not Anti Inspect. It has no effect. You got screwed if you bought one.

So, to repeat once again for those who do not get it….. ANTI-INPECT devices do. not. work.
At best you are a twat, at worst a copybotter.

I think people are free to wear whatever they want without it being accused of anything. We must read, for example “So yeah. Just another day on the grid, I guess. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I’ll leave you with a picture of the turkey tiny avatar that’s probably being copybotted as I write this.” If the avatard was copied, why she has not looked at who was the creator, He does not want to be free advertising for his store in accusing people who paid for items in a shop. The shop Delora must not be profitable, fear of going to work in MacDonald, the sick cat. But make free publicity by accusing without proof lol lol lo

OK, I loves me some Delora and everyone here is great and copybotters suck and Jenee’s AVs look cool . . . but am I the only one who sees the irony of the supposedly copyright law-protected CARE BEAR AVS in the background of the last pic??
Or, OK I’ll play: I mean “Care Bear-inspired.”
*Gives everyone a huge Happy Thanksgiving hug and runs like hell.*

I noticed the “Care Bear-inspired” avatars myself and made the wtf face. There were a few other cartoon inspired avatars there at that store, but all I purchased was the turkey, which is not a problematic image to my knowledge.

Every person I’ve seen wearing anti-inspection looks a hot mess. The clothes don’t go together, prims arn’t adjusted, and they don’t know how to fix tones on prim feet. The shields are tacky and only show three things. You’re a thief or get things from theives. You’re a snood and think people buy things just because *you* are wearing them. Or you’re a sheep who does things just because others do them and have no idea what the purpose is.
You look bad and you cause lag.

While most of the time someone who is wearing all items made by themselves is a copybot.
I’d like to make a friendly reminder that sometimes designers use alts.
My partner once made an alt and .. for the first few months, at least, only would wear handmade items. But then got lazy and started buying things like hair and shoes from other people.
Most likely though in this situations, as we are not dueches, they wont be wearing one of those horrible devices.
It’s something to think about though, I used to think everyone with anti-inspect were just stuck up sluts. I wonder if I could automatically ban anyone wearing those…
It’s win-win whether they steal or not. I personally wouldn’t want snooty selfish people wearing my items anyways…
