GNU General Public License and DMCA…different things. They do not mention DMCA, as those people didn't violate DMCA, but rather the licencing agreement for Open Source software, the GNU General Public License for derivative works…

    Tsk tsk…:p

So it needs to be something on the blog (ie, copied content on the blog!) before they'll take action…That's like sending a DMCA to google because people can find illegal mp3s via it…

Though speaking of copied content or rather the Lindens being unable to 'converse' with their residents and actually sort copied content issues, check this link out..

Thank you Tenshi for spreading the word on this.

This really is a big deal folks. Modular systems is doing things we all wish the Lindens would do, use perfectly simple and legal means to go after rouge versions of the SL client that enable copying. My understanding is that modular systems has evoked its rights under the GNU GPL to revoke the rights to distribute the derivative NeilLife code and is filing DMCA take downs where it finds the now illegal code available for download. While this will not remove the copies of NeilLife that are "in the wild", it is exactly what we all want to see. Well Done!

Sometimes I wish I had gone to law school so I could understand all that's happening lately, LOL. But besides that YAY!

Won't do any good. The only effective resolution is a lawsuit which is a public record and requires publishing the real life name and address of whoever "Neil" is.

Prokky hunny, you can type better English than that. I have no idea what you mean, so as far as communication goes, you fail. Please try again (preferably somewhere else).

        Prokofy … SHUT UP!!!
You just raised your voice against the former ripper on the Emerald team. This behavior will not be tolerated here.
You must comply with some rules on this blog if you don't want to be flamed at, which are:
1 – Never express your real oppinion.
2 – Never go against the emerald/LGG/Ripper team
3 – Never move away from the cattle
4 – Never forget to floss after diner … and the list goes on.

(sorry if I could write better english that this)

You mean basically Emerald is trying to act in charge because they want to be the only other viewer that is used in 3rd party terms when we all know that Modular themselves have tried breaking and working glitches to fill there on interest why don't you all ask them what the full lsl bridge can do they will say just radar to you are nothing at all.

On top of that why don't every one of you look deep and find who the person you so protect is also known for https://xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplac... not everyone is pure no one is perfect.

      1. The stuff they added to the viewer is copyright by them. 2. Read the GPL: "…nothing other than this License grants you permission to propagate or modify any covered work"

No don't get me wrong, I use Emerald everyday and am very happy with it. It does everything i want in a viewer. However, to paint the developers of Emerald as saints is a bit misleading. Those same people have produced private clients on the same scale as NeilLife, and have sold those clients for upwards of 50,000 Linden. Some even scam their supposed customers byt taking the money and never deliver the "passwords" that must be use to unlock the client. The point is, don't go tossing stones if you don't know all the facts. I just find it funny that the ones doing the pointing are the ones with most to hide.

Jason, in my eyes, the Emerald developers ARE saints. The jiggly boobs function allows me to FEEL like a REAL woman, AND at the same time makes me FEEL SEXY.

Have you thought about surgery? We have this (now) chick in Brasil who used to be a guy. She went thru some surgery and now she looks VERY hot.
She had been on TV for some time. And even got to a movie of some sorts.

actually i prefer to keep mine so I can play with it while i look at jiggly boobs ;)

Yeah tell me about it! But I'm like many other 'females' in SL, really a guy who gets a slight sexual 'thrill' from dressing up as a woman. I think in real life they are called transvestites, but in real life I don't wear womens clothes just in SL is fine.

                Nov 11th, 2009

well … I must confess that I "drove" a very sexy woman avatar for a while … I used it for escorting … managed to make LOTS of lindens with it, until LL banned it for "inappropriate behavior"… and there went all my money and assets… I had my fun though … lol.

Neil's unwillingness to publish his code does raise a few questions.

It would be rather poetic justice, I suppose, if it transpires that all the people who've been using his viewer to rip content find they've also been sending him their passwords and log-in details…

  13. Mockba the Borg

    Nov 9th, 2009

Do you compile your own Emerald copy prior to using it? As fas as I am concerned, any modded viewer (Emerald included) can be doing that. That's why I only rely on the LL viewer when I want to go out and do some ripping. But wait … don't they do the same as well? hmmm…. made me think now.

Some other moron is publishing a proxy application that allows all kinds of nasty stuff. (http://openmetaverse.blogspot.com/)
And this one is not like Neil, he is releasing the full source code, so he is not breaking any GPL.
I think this makes him eve more dangerous than Neil, because he is not hiding anything from anyone.
